Carl.B Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 http://www.ebay.com/...=item35ba142256To rich for me.
murkat Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 it's nice. but, there is a lot of wrong for that coin. Your in 4 digit territory there...
bubs_42 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The headstock break is another signifcant flaw. That was the first thing I noticed. I was actually looking for it when I seen that guitar. That belongs to an HFC-er, doesn't it? Yes, I do believe it belongs to a member here. I cannot confirm yet but It may be the one that PF used to own.
peedenmark7 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I guess I now know what happened to my "77 sunburst...I had just asked 2 members if they had seen this one or knew where it was as I wanted it back in a bad way..This is the one that was listed here by a guy in Finland? some years ago. It was strung lefty at some point and changed back, the nut is genuine ivory. I have pics of the serial number and of the added strap button hole that seems a bit worse finish wise than when it left my home..Makes me sick to my stomach that the headstock is now broke as this was one of the "FINEST" playing /sounding sunbursts Ive laid hands on and Ive had close to 50 of them.I believe I sold it for what I paid which was $2800.I'm gonna have to rethink where and to whom I let things go to...This is the 3rd headstock break on a guitar I have sold in as many years.
RichRS6 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Sad that it ended up with a broken neck. How does this happen so much, I understand if it happens in the post but otherwise ?Is it just dumb people who don't know how to look after their guitars or can't figure out how to put it safely out of the way of drummers.I know I'm tempting fate here but I've been playing for 35 Years and have never had it happen.Well, not accidently as I snapped off the headstock of a Strat once along the line of tuner holes but this was kind of on purpose as I was slinging it around at the end of a show.
Brentrocks Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 considering what i paid for my 78, with no breaks or repairs, that price is way out of line
serial Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 The single piece necks on the 77s, 78s and early 79s (before they went to the 3 piece necks at around 9 1050), were prone to twisting and the headstock breaks. My '77 had a repaired headstock. That one was a GREAT guitar. Sadly, someone after me took the original pickups out and installed Rios. I can't imagine that guitar sounding better than it did, but I haven't seen it since, so maybe it does. That guitar had THE best-sounding neck pickup of any guitar I've ever had.

I also really liked the thinner body, it had lots of pop and its acoustic properties unplugged were excellent. No twists in this neck, fantastic guitar all around.I sold it at a weak moment.. Those darn GMP's get me weak knee'd sometimes !!

I was on the drum riser and as I attempted to us the headstock to hit his crash cymbal, He had the same idea with his stick... not only took the headstock clean off my brand spanking new '85 powder blue Steve Stevens, it cut my left hand real good as well as the headstock and strings came winging around as well as ruined the cymbal... an expensive night for me crazy kids !

RichRS6 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Such a shame about the damage to the neck.More fuel to the Grover debate, smooth backs on a '77.
custom53 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970s-HAMER-SUNBURST-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-w-ORIG-CASE-VERY-EARLY-MODEL-1978-1977-/270928315273?_trksid=p4340.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DSIC.NPJS%26its%3DI%252BC%26itu%3DUA%26otn%3D5%26pmod%3D230755148374%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6791921098427260132
polara Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 custom53, me likey that one. lovely color. and pro'lly not THAT much work for a good luthier (can name a couple here.)
bubs_42 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 LATE 78, but most likley a 79 Sunburst. IMHO to much money for that one. You can a 79 with no issues for that.
Joe G Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Edited to make it clear that I am talking about the Hamer with the serial number sanded off the headstock.http://www.ebay.com/...921098427260132Seller added this comment to the auction description:"AGAIN- PEOPLE ARE NOT READING THIS- HEADSTOCK HAD BEEN PAINTED BLACK AT ONE TIME, AND A SMALL PLASTIC GIBSON LOGO (LIKE YOU WOULD FIND ON A FLYING V) HAD BEEN GLUED ON. THAT IS WHY HEADSTOCK IS NOW BARE WOOD- NEVER BROKEN OR REPAIRED!!!"I read the auction description and I call bullshit. Pictures or it didn't happen. As it is right now, seller is just passing on the story he was told when he bought the guitar and hoping to leverage his 100% positive feedback rating to sell a guitar that may or may not be stolen for top dollar. Good luck with that.

murkat Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Well, there is deff a crack running both sides of the G and B string. that is wood seperation and mabe fixed at one time. Still, a lot of coin for a B&C beater that has been beat and then some. "I have to ask, did anyone make a best offer of $350 yet" I offered something a lil more generous than that, but not too generous...
