Magic Marker off Car paint (White!)

Armitage

Question

Posted

Well we either have an artistically challenged Jewish vandal, or a kid who doesn't know the Star of David from a pentigram... but one of them drew a rather poor six pointed star on my car in Magic Marker. I'm wondering what's best to take it off, I have no idea how long it's been there, it's on the back, maybe a week or two.

I've heard of hair spray, naphtha, rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, Mr. Clean Eraser, but have never done it.

Anyone tried?

I've used a "magic eraser" with a little water to take Sharpie ink off of the refrigerator, computer monitor, and bedroom wall. Gotta love the kids.......

Hope it helps.

Not positive, but a mild buffing compound should take it off.

The fan club bumper sticker is an awesome idea, though.

meguiars or 3M polish or swirl remover will do the trick (wal mart has the 3m stuff, auto parts

places should have them too)

... some f-er keyed my gf's black suv, and thankfully it wasn't deep, took care of it no

problem, sure as hell would take care of sharpie... it leaves a light haze however that wil

polish off.

Btw... just had good luck using goo gone, taking sharpie marks off a canon camera

battery. it took the sharpie off, and left the label and writing full intact.

My wife swears by the Magic Eraser. I write shit on her car all the time.

Use Prep-sol. You can pick it up at any good auto body supply store. They sell it by the quart and gallon (usually sells for around $18 a gallon).

Take an erasable white board marker, and write over the sharpie, kind of scribbling over the pentagram/star of david, then wipe off the result with a paper towel or a soft rag. It works, like a champ, on white boards. Whatever liquid is in the erasable markers also temporarily dissolves the indelible marker ink.

One of my students wrote on a projection screen with a Sharpie. Red ink on white. (I later sold a Brian Moore MIK to him, for whatever that might mean.)

We took the red ink off with hand sanitizer (alcohol) and a cheap paper towel. It worked PERFECTLY.

Good luck.

I'd try denatured alcohol. It'll even remove paint from plastic without melting it.

Yup, but I'd use 91% rubbing 'cause denatured isn't as strong but just has additives so winos won't drink it.

91% rubbing alcohol is magic.

WD-40 will probably remove magic marker from paint since it removes road tar and bugs quite easily. Spray it on and let it soak for a minute then wipe with a clean wet towel. It will also take the wax off of that area so you will have to wash and re-wax your car.
