Well, I've already got a loaded black pickguard waiting for a host body, so the die is cast. Always open to custom orders, of course!

How about a black and green checkerboard one?

Just kidding, nice looking guitar. Sounds good to.

I've always liked black pick guards.

It's probably related to how I dig the 80s superstrats....like Charvels and Kramers.

So I think you want to go with saturated colors and/or metallic.

A medium blue or green metallic would look killer with a black pick guard. Most would a candy apple red. Intense yellow might look good, too. You've already done red the one pictures above and a kind of muted gold (mine)

never notice till now,

using the dished / curve neck pocket / joint.

Very nice.

Very stable.

Thanks, that's Glenn's innovation, similar to Tom Anderson's trapezoidal neck pocket but with less stress put on the sides of the pocket.

I like the black and sunburst ideas.

I've recently revisited your website, and I'm suddenly lusting after a shell pink Mercury Head.

I can make it happen. :) Which reminds me, I forgot to post updates. The necks are currently in Sr. Stike's good hands:

The bodies are almost ready for finish, so speak now before I do something we all regret! :)

img_9795.jpgPlease excuse my ignorance here, but what is the tone wood on these two? Light weight is of importance to me, so I'm thinking ash for mine (if I decide to do it, ha).

The 2 bodies I have in the pipeline are alder. Lightish medium weight. The alder in my prototype is super-light (almost too light for me, actually), and we can also do light swamp ash. I can get you a quote for the upcharge if you're interested.

Still love mine.

Beginning to wonder if I can order a stainless-steel-fretted ebony-board neck with reverse headstock?

And if can, whether or not I should...

I'll have to get back to you. Stainless is possible but I'm not sure if we have access to quality ebony anymore. Last I heard from Glenn it was pretty punky stuff.

Katalox is acceptable.

I just want "reversed headstock" and "stainless steel frets".

I just don't know if I should, because there's nothing wrong with the current neck, and a new one would result in me having an extra neck sitting around doing nothing.

It's not like I play any guitar enough to need stainless steel frets...it's more the idea of it.

Stainless steel frets: $100

Katalox board: $50

Reverse headstock: $0

Lightweight body wood (basswood, alder, swamp ash): $TBD

Glenn recommends basswood if you want a very light guitar. The very light swamp ash and alder he's gotten doesn't sustain as well as the medium weight stuff, but the basswood seems to work well in very light weights. The cost will vary. Sometimes he just has light wood on hand, in which case there won't be any upcharge. If he has to go hunting then it will depend on how hard it is to find and how much it costs to get.

When the guitar didn't sell on the forums last fall, I dropped it off at Ludlow Guitars here in NYC. They were curious about it, so I told them about my background and how the guitar was made. I also showed them my website, with the demos of me playing Steely Dan tunes. They told me the guitar was right up their owner's alley in terms of design. Always nice to get that kind of encouragement!

A month or so later, they called to tell me the guitar had sold and that I should come pick up the check. When I got there, they told me that Walter Becker was a regular at the store, that he asked about the guitar and they showed him my demos, and he bought it! I was on Cloud 9 for months. I reached out to him by e-mail but haven't heard back yet. I know he's been busy touring. Maybe now that the tour's over he'll be able to catch up on his e-mails. Or maybe not, who knows? I'm happy either way. :)

"As appearing on stage during Steely Dan concerts"

That's pretty cool!

It seems like maybe you should try to keep a guitar on sale at Ludlow's guitars constantly. The more examples they see, the more the owner will push your guitar as a great quality guitar.

That is fantastic! Major congrats!

Very cool! Congrats. Maybe he'll order a custom model.

One can hope!

I'll give the 2 that I have in the pipeline a month or so on the net. After that they'll go to Ludlow.

Sweet! Congrats Ben. Trans finish

Yeah, was originally going to go with trans finishes on the next 2 but the wood didn't cooperate. Next batch.
