Boomerang~Junkie Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Nate, Uh, are we talking about a guitar or "a ring" ?
dhuber Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Yeah, the pewter with rosewood is especially sharp!Agree
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Closer: This is just sexy.
burningyen Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 I was having a mental block over the wiring last night. Believe it or not it took me hours to work out this unsexy diagram:
Feynman Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 You made your connections too sad, which probably caused your mental block.I fixed it for you (my daughter helped).
Feynman Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 P.S. That is a seriously beautiful and cool guitar.
burningyen Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 You made your connections too sad, which probably caused your mental block. I fixed it for you (my daughter helped). Ha, much happier this way! Thanks for the kind words. If only you had something to exchange for one of my guitars....
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 P.S. That is a seriously beautiful and cool guitar.Even more beautiful after the pickguard is added, and even more cool with the P-Rails in and functional!
hamerhead Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 You made your connections too sad, which probably caused your mental block. I fixed it for you (my daughter helped). I can't beleive the dork gene was passed on.
burningyen Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Finished up Nathan's Mercury Head over the weekend. He ordered his with Duncan P-Rails in reverse configuration (rail outer coils, P-90 inner coils) and a 3-way toggle to select rail, P-90 and humbucker modes:It was kind of an experiment, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Here's a quick demo of all 9 pickup modes, recorded with my Kemper using a '58 Tweed Pro profile from The Amp Factory, Compressor on 2.5, direct to GarageBand without post processing:Mercury Head w/Reversed P-Rails demo
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Oh, my.That's even prettier than I imagined.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 The only thing is, I don't know how much of what I'm hearing is guitar, or Kemper Modeling Amp.I'll find out soon!Still, gosh that's got gorgeous tone...!
tobereeno Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 that Chris Isaak quote sounded awesome; cleaner than the original.never heard of this P-Rails pickup before; sounds cool!!
burningyen Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 The red one has sold: The next shop build will have a black pickguard and Z-90s as well, but I'm debating what color scheme to use. Ideas?
sixesandsevens Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 For a black guard? Black. Maybe sunburst? Slime green? I dig the classic Fender colors on those Ben. It's a nice juxtaposition of traditional and modern. That said, I'd put most of those (sonic blue, surf green, daphne blue, vintage white) with an off white guard and not black.
gorch Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Too much black IMO. Creme or white shell pickguards with beautifully fresh colors recommended from my side.
