Hectrop Chris has a clear vision of a specific guitar with a specific mod. And it works way better than expected.

You get the tight focus attack sound from a stop tail, but still retain the woody chambered, hollow, feedback goodness.

Chris's superduperpro...

someone intrusted me to their most beloved, important, cherished guitar to be refretted.

Not an easy task. Played so much that the board sides are extremely rolled. 12" to a 9" radius easily.

Jay, could you go into some detail as to the wood plugs in the neck pickup rout? Was this to take some of the "air" out of the guitar's output? Inquiring minds want to know.

Hey Rob,

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but did you mean to write above "the wood plugs in the 'bridge' pickup route"? I think those two square blocks were glued under the top against the wall where the TOM bridge inserts were to widen/enlarge the wall for the larger diameter stop tailpiece stud inserts to mount to.

Bingo! winner!

Gold star for you!

Very cool. The plugs for the old tailpiece actually look good instead of distracting. I can't wait to see it and play it (should have it by Wednesday or Thursday, per the USPS). Thanks Jay!

Great work as usual, but that Les Paul owner is a real slob.

Mind blowing shit there Jay... I did let out a very audible wow when scrolling through the images. The craftsmanship and the great instruments are enough to bring a tear to one's eye.

Bad Arse fo shizzle.

Incredible craftmanship Jay. Inspiring work!

This is simply not possible in our dimension.

Now there might be a bizarro RobB wandering around space and time, but he's most likely trapped in another dimension/universe...

... Unless he broke free and this is bizarro RobB.

Some day I will study under Jay and learn to be that damn good.

Kudos, fella.

Well Jay, I stress-tested that old LP at practice the other night, and I don't know what might have happened while it was in your care, but........

IT TOTALLY RAWKS, DOOD.

Have you ever used something for so long and it's been so gradually worn down that you don't really notice how bad it is until it's made right again? Kinda like that old pair of Chucks that you duct taped and baler twined back together (again) to get another 1000 miles out of. That's how this is. I was afraid of losing that really-comfy-wore-in feel, but now it's like getting NEW Chucks WITH a gel insole - it'll take some breaking in, but it'll feel sooo good doing it.

If any of y'all know how paranoid I am when shipping guitars you can imagine what I put Jay thru by sending this one - my #1 - out. You'd think I'd shipped my firstborn or something. Seriously - what a dork.

I can't possibly thank you enough, Jay. But why didn't you clean that crud off?!? :P:lol:

For anyone else considering this mod....the intonation is perfect all the way up the neck...as in better than any of my TOM guitars. It rings like a bell. I haven't had a chance yet to really put it through its paces with a nice tube amp yet. Maybe today. Thanks again, Jay.

I'm really excited about this build. The old gal will be sportin' a one piece veneer maple top, a Floyd, BCR GregWinds tapped, added crowns, period correct black plastic knobs and a Stadium logo. Jay doesn't waste his time. He's in charge of the burst and has some ideas......

Still need to get to Hectorp's to see this monster up close. As has been said time and again, brilliant work by Mr. Kolanda.
