gorch Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Get off with it. It's all about perception and marketing trivia. Certainly, Gibson has the inventor advantage that is not any magic. Hamer would be the best value for money since they are cheaper on the 2nd market. The same applies to the Hamer XT series over the Gibson plant. Even on swapped pickups and hardware the XT line would be cheaper on equal quality. So, if you are into brands? Follow Gibson. Want selected quality and the best Fanclub ever? Follow Hamer.
gtone Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 I'll say Hamson, no...ummm...Gibber?? Both great names for different reasons. Now pass the peace pipe guys...
Kurt L Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I'll say Hamson, no...ummm...Gibber?? Both great names for different reasons. Now pass the peace pipe guys... Isn't Gamer the more obvious choice???
cmatthes Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Such a thing DOES exist... Would love to see an exact replica of the LP made by Hamer... I'd love to have a Les Paul built by Hamer. Best of both worlds. Seriously.

django49 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 So it DOES exist. Is that another teaser for "THE BOOK?"
hamersandstrats Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I looked at 2 SGs recently at guitar center-both brand new. One was a natural burst that never should have left the factory-the entire back of the guitar was sticky to the touch with raised dimples in the paint. The other was very nice, but the inspection checklist was entirely blank. No model number, nothing. This is right out of the sealed box-which I opened with the GC employee.
Tah-lee Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I bought my Steve Stevens years ago because it seemed to be the best of both worlds: it was like a Gibson Les Paul double cut, but with a Floyd Rose. Of course, the headstock was a different shape, but it seemed like a L.P. double cut that I could play stunt guitar on (thanks to the Floyd). Then it happened...I fell in love with the Hamer SS. There, I said it. I love that thing! It's the only Hamer I've ever owned, and it is wonderful. Just perfect. I've had it for probably 20 years. That being said, I also love my Gibsons. But I see what you mean about the hit or miss nature of the Gibsons: I recently had a nice Les Paul: But, it was sort of a dud. No magic at all. Very dull and uninspiring. I traded it (even trade) for a sweet Gibson SG Supreme: ((BTW, I hope you don't mind all the pics)) So, then I had an urge and picked up a Gibson Custom Shop Ace Frehley Budokan (1 of 150) and the Ace redeemed the Gibson name...it plays like a dream and I find myself thinking of it often...missing it. Well, I guess that's what you guys mean when you say the Gibsons can be hit or miss. I've owned two Les Pauls: one was a dud, and the other the holy grail. I've owned one Hamer, and it was amazing from the moment I touched it. Here's my Ace: Luckily, we can own and enjoy both brands. I know I do...and a couple of other brands, too!
morningstar Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I will only buy Hamer USA and ESP Japan sight unseen. Nothing else is consistent enough for me. Picky picky picky.
LordOfTheThighs Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Dude ... that's a sweet guitar. Where'd you score that swanky strap at? I love it!
G Man Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Does that Amp in the last picture say Super Goldtone? Never heard of it, off to google.
Tah-lee Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Dude ... that's a sweet guitar. Where'd you score that swanky strap at? I love it! Thanks! A friend's wife in Michigan made me the strap. She sells them for $125 and also offers a silver leather one with a black bolt. Anyone who's interested, I can get you in touch. It is super thick and soft leather. I love it.
Tah-lee Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Does that Amp in the last picture say Super Goldtone? Never heard of it, off to google. It is the best amp EVER. Made by Trace Elliot in England for Gibson. All solder inside is done with gold solder and the electronics have gold plated leads inside there. I love it!!! Super creamy tones. This is the only other pic I can dig up right now:
specialk Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 ((BTW, I hope you don't mind all the pics)) Trust me, we never tire of pics! The more the better.
damndirtyape71 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Argh. Now I gotta go out and buy a Hamer USA so that I can contribute to this topic. LOL
bigolsparky Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I shopped for two months for a new guitar. If you are patient, which I am not, a used Hamer USA is the best deal out there. In my opinion, the most undervalued used guitar. Gibson SGs are a little undervalued as well. Right now is a good time to be a buyer. Lots of guitars going cheap. My opinion on Gibson vs. Hamer. Hmmm...apples and oranges is what I say. They are both great guitars. I like Carvins, Charvels, and Jacksons too, but I can find something wrong with just about any guitar if I play it enough.
Tah-lee Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 ... but I can find something wrong with just about any guitar if I play it enough. I can find something right with just about any guitar if I play it long enough!
BCR Greg Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I have a pile of 50's Gibsons.I have a pile of Hamers.I play them all live.That's all.
cmatthes Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Moncaco Elite that is I recon.Nope. It was/is an actual, dead to nuts '59 style LP. If I recall, it had a Korina back and neck, but somebody who remembers it could correct me.
