specialk Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Got this small body acoustic recently. Cedar top with hog body. Tort binding. I love tort. I also love natural wood. The PG is thin enough it shouldn't have any effect on sound/tone. Yes or no?
Bennyboy-UK Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I like tort on black guitars really. I reaction that shade of tort on the body colour is sfraction insipid."The colours of the illness toilet discovery"
cynic Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 If I were going to do a pickguard on that I'd go with clear or black. Maybe even a normal tort guard.Regarding the pictured guard, my vote is absolutely no.
hamerhead Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I'm with Ben - that's not the right one for that particular guitar.
dgstandard Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I don't mind it but there are better options available - like dark tortoise as mentioned above.
veatch Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I like the pickguard in the second photo - the one that looks like two hands holding a camera. That one.
gtone Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 Tortoiseshell seems to clash with that soundhole inlay - nix it, IMO...
zorrow Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Having a second look at it. I think a darker one would fit, if you try to match the color of the fretboard. Otherwise, leave it untouched.
Tres Aardvarks Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I could go either way on the color (whatever makes you happy), but I think the shape of the overlay is wrong. The curves don't match the body right (it needs more of a waist cut/tighter radiusing).
QueenCityGuitars Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 I think it's a much cleaner look without. Just my $0.02.
