zorrow Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I'm looking for a chrome sustainblock bridge. 'Nuff said!
bubs_42 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Slim pickins nowadays. May I ask if your are replacing one or doing a conversion?
bcsride Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 What if you took one of these things, and instead of a rosewood shim, put it on a aluminum or brass shim? I know it isn't a sustainblock, but until those various handy-folks that frequent this thready actually feel compelled to make some new sustain blocks, it might be as close as you can get?http://www.g-gotoh.com/international/?btp_product=gtc102
bubs_42 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I'm pretty sure the chances of more being made our slim to none. No one is willing to pay what it would cost to produce a small run. So it would take some crazy guy a bunch of time to make a run, pay all the money up front for materials and basicly give them away at cost.

Guest gearwhore Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I will take one if someone is making them.
hamerhead Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I should get a quote for a run thru here (work). I'm pretty sure you'd all soil yourselves have seconds thoughts.Bubs is correct to a point - you'd give them away at a loss.
aknapp Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Someone in another thread mentioned Armadillo Guitar Parts http://www.armadilloguitar.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_3&products_id=39 This is close - the plate base is half the thickness of the sustain block, but it's not chrome plated. It looks like they do custom work; they could probably make a thicker plate base. As for chrome plating....

I just need to get pricing for polishing and plating which I've been too busy to get done. I'll try to do that in the next week or so and post the results.

As for chrome plating.... those might be alright...i like the naked brass look...you could polish to look gold..or let mother nature take over and get relic'd look fast. I still will be up for the real deal.
Thundernotes Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I have a 2FIG plate around here somewhere, but it has no saddles. If I can find it, would that work for you?
Bloozguy Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I'm in for 2 Ray. You do realize that for you they're $4,000 each, don't you?
bubs_42 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I'm in for 2 Ray. You do realize that for you they're $4,000 each, don't you? And it will be the ONLY TWO you sell. Heck in a couple of years we will be able to 3D Print them at home for $20.
stonge Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Ray, you should have reverse - engineered one of Hamerhead's bridges. They were nicer...

The 2FIG's did great work and I used the one I had. Since that time, I have purchased at least one other sustain block and used it as well in the past couple of years. I was stupid enough *think of Bill Murray from Stripes" for not buying in on the run from Hamerhead. That picture he posts of the collage just makes me sick every time i see it. Great pic just wished I had a couple for future potential candidates. Hamerica
hamerhead Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 And Stonge - Hamerica's right: You are FAR too modest.
Guest gearwhore Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 You mean this old thing?: now thats art...should make prints..I would hang one on the wall

Last time I was at 3D Systems I tried to put a Cube printer under my coat

Last time I was at 3D Systems I tried to put a Cube printer under my coat Now, here's my shameless plug... I just bought a Stratasys Objet500 Connex3 multi-color, multi-material 3D printer. Should be installed next week. Those are full size bicycle helmets on there...just for an idea of size/scale...
cmatthes Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I was at an Angel Venture Forum here in DC in December, and saw a LOT of cool innovation in this space. Watching a guy print out human organs in soft, tissue-like resin from an MRI (for medical training purposes) was nothing short of incredible. The technology that allowed that to get done is primitive compared to where they foresee that going - metal fabrications are on the horizon, if not here already, and the ultimate goal of one R&D company was to actually create living tissue for burn victims and organ transplants.Crazy stuff, but I sat through a number of pitch meetings, and some of these things are actually not so crazy. If they can do all that, Sustainblocks should be a piece of cake!
