cmatthes Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 That's just a headstock personalization - not a sig model.
polara Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I can't ask this without sounding either stupid or... stupid but.Who is Eddie Martinez?I find a painter by that name on Wikipedia and a guitarist but it's a very short entry. Session guy. Why is he so big in the HFC-verse? What's his claim to fame?
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 While hardly a household name these days he played with many of the greats back in the day and is currently still very active as a guitarist,producer,composer/arranger,multi instrumentalist, etc.etc.etc..He IS a amazing guitar player............one of the best.................and this is a cool guitar! I love twelve strings electrics for chord and even lead lines.http://www.allmusic.com/artist/eddie-martinez-mn0000794861/credits

ARM OF HAMER Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 According to Chris this is a guitar that has been personalized NOT a Hamer "Eddie Martinez" model so its just a Hamer electric 12. I'm not seeing anything that says that this was actually owned and used by Eddie Martinez so.......... it is cool but 3K?...............someone must want it bad. Is this guitar that rare and uncommon? I thought there was one for sale on Ebay earlier this summmer? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Here is a USA Eclipse I found that went for under a grand.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hamer-USA-Eclipse-12-String-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar-w-Original-Hard-Case-/310975552324?pt=Guitar&hash=item4867965b44&nma=true&si=MVU2Vjk8TGQSDmRDWQ0ko8AxMYE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Tres Aardvarks Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 This ad made me seriously scratch my head when I saw it (as a high school kid). I knew who Stevie was, but the other guys didn't ring any bells (without reading the copy)...

Also its a freaking 12 String SS, how many 12 SS's have you seen. I'm going to guess ONE I find it pretty damn cool and anytime a HAMER goes for good money I will applaud it.

I certainly agree on the fact that anytime you can sell a Hamer for great money it is as they say 'ALL GOOD". Can't say I have ever seen another SS-12 but that does not mean other members here might not have.............so....... just what I meant to say ................so this is a one off? made for Eddie Martinez? it WAS his personal guitar? Maybe Eddie is bidding on it trying to get it back! Ah.................probably not.
Hamerica Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 WHOA! I believe this is the first 12 string SS sighting that I can recall. Very, very cool. Eddy Martinez is probably best known for playing guitar for the late great Robert Palmer. I'm with Bubs42, rare, unique, and it was made for the artist. As far as artists guitars go, if they were made for them, that is an artists guitar unlike, signature models who are replicas or reproductions or etc unless they were made for the artist specifically or in the case of vintage enough documentation provides the guitar was theirs. Tres Aardvarks post took me down memory lane. I had the same reaction, "Who is that guy?" However it was for Steve Salas? Hamerica
tomteriffic Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Eddie also played for Bowie during the "Let's Dance" period.
Bennyboy-UK Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 3k and climbing?? Is it really that rare? Yarp "Well. That'll be unique then. "

I can't specifically remember seeing one on here in the past 14 years and I definitely don't recall ever seeing one for sale and I've been 100% Hamer for thirty years but we are talking Hamer so there could be more, but if there is I'd be surprised if there was more than another two or three and yes, that was totally Eddie's personal, made for him, played by him guitar.
cmatthes Posted August 23, 2014 Author Posted August 23, 2014 Yes - that is a one of a kind custom order, ordered by and played by Eddie. It is not even in the same continent as a regular Eclipse XII as far as rarity. My comment above was stating that there never was an "Eddie Martinez Signature Model", but he favored SS models and the occasional Chap. He was a longtime Hamer endorser, and one of the most famous and prolific session players of the '80s and into the '90s. You may not recognize his name, but you've heard his playing - whether you know it or not. Here's a sample (click on @3:00): Also:
