pickboy007 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Was a snot nosed guitar tech on the Painkiller tour back in 1991 in Europe. Pantera was the opening act, and Cowboys from hell wasnt even released yet. Both Preist and my group Annihilator were endorsed by Hamer.......
RobB Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Thank you for those! The snaps are a real indictment of an era, in a good way.
zorrow Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 You are Jeff Waters? Or Dave Scott Davis? Wow, man, that's awesome! I've always wondered what happened to those old Hamer Vectors you guys used to play. BTW, if you are Dave Scott Davis, that Meatwagon album was really great. I purchased the CD a while back. One can still get it in digital format from here: http://meatwagon.bandcamp.com/releases Metal on! \m/ Edited to add: I missed the "guitar tech" part of your post, focusing on the "my band Annihilator" part. Annihilator was back then one of the bands I listened to the most. Their two first albums are masterpieces. You guys ruled!
HAMERMAN Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 That explains things a bit for me - whenever I see the Epiphone Jeff Waters V I immediately think Hamer and never knew why.http://www.epiphone.com/Products/Designer/Jeff-Waters-Annihilation-V.aspx
BTMN Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Zorrow I think he was the band's guitar tech. I'm betting the guy posed with the guitars. Cool shot of Dime's guitars.
RobB Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Just purchased my tix for JP/Mastodon on the 20th!But...$169.00???? They're kidding, right?
Brentrocks Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 look at all those nitro UNfriendly guitar stands
pickboy007 Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 BTMN... correct... I was the guitar tech for Annihilator on and off thru the years. The few pics I have are from the 1991 tour posted above. No stage shots of Pantera unfortunately.

Thank you Oh, and Jeff auctioned off those guitars on EBAY years ago to support a new album when record companies came up short. Lean times the late 90's.

Little did anyone know at the time that Pantera was going to bust out so big so soon.I miss Dime every day. His death was such a tragedy to American metal and music, in general. A true Son of Texas and a ripping guitarist. So sad...

Lights all the way down the frets.... What a fucking pain in the ass that was. Light bulbs with early wireless systems. I did look cool though.....

They were one of the greats in their prime. Thanks for the pics pickboy007

From what I know, Dave is on Vancouver Island and doing well. I like this material! Thank youYou're welcome! Dave's quite reclusive. Not so long ago I tried to contact him through one of his bandmates in Meatwagon, for a guest solo job. Couldn't finally talk to him at all, so I ended dropping the ball. BTW, I have all the Annihilator albums. Will undust my old "In Command (live 1989-1990)" copy and will play it in your honor this morning. I guess you were the guitar tech on those tours, so you're still behind all those tracks, right? Cheers, bro!
mhmike Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Awesome pics. I love Annihilator (and Priest, and Pantera...) and Jeff Waters riffs and especially leads are some of my favorite in metal on their first three albums. Big inspiration and super cool
devrock Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 OP, I truly hate you that you actually TOUCHED Glenn's custom Hamer....
DBraz Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon on that tour as a birthday present in March '91. It was awesome. I lived about 20 mins from the venue in those days so used to regularly spend all of my paper round money on concert tickets and vinyl.Cowboys From Hell - the video - had been doing the rounds on the Metal TV shows and I was totally wowed at the time. I was already a fan of Annihilator and had both of the albums at the time and Priest was an act I had wanted to see for a few years. There was virtually no one watching Pantera when they came out which meant we snuck up to the very front. With no barrier section between the audience and the stage in those days we literally stood at the end of the stage which was raised about 5 foot above where we were standing. Pantera nailed their set and despite not having much of an audience I just loved them. Really high energy and a positive vibe. Annihilator were brilliant too - I still think those first few albums are their best. Strangely they too played to a half full Odeon. Jeff's technique was rock solid I jumped up about 3 times to shake Jeff's hand after a few numbers. Very cool. I seem to remember Jeff being the only guitarist that night and his sound was really big and his solo's flawless.Priest too were epic. Halford came on riding his Harley with the V twin "pap pa pa pa pap" amplified before breaking out into their set. One thing I remember was that, after two VERY solid support acts, that they projected a presence of an act that had been around the world MANY times. Pros. They played well and really knew how to get the audience engaged. Sadly during their set the place was absolutely packed and we were nearer the back on the ground floor. We saw the show but also saw plenty of taller head bangers who occasionally obscured the view.Great night. Great memories. Thanks for sharing yours and reminding me of some of the good times!
Steve Haynie Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Was it a Harley or a Triumph? It was in England-- cheerio, pip pip, and all that rot.
LucSulla Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Phil Anselmo and Mike Patton could have passed for the same person back then.
