diablo175 Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Saw this on my feed and almost put an offer in. A Custom? Can't say with certainty but isn't this just an Elite with O'Connor paint? And a '99? I thought they had ceased producing Cali's before '99. The string lock nut bolted on thru the rear of the neck and the OBL's suggest an '89. I had the version in blue that I sold to a fella in Russia. 2 G's is a little more than I am willing to lay down for this. Frankly, IMO not one of O'Connor's better design ideas and/or executions. https://reverb.com/item/1763634-1999-hamer-custom
atquinn Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 89 Cali Elite with an aftermarket paintjob as far as I can see. Definitely not worth 2K in my book. - Austin

I delicately posed that very issue to him and asked to see the signature. No reply. Frankly, I don't think he knows what the hell he has. 1 hour ago, atquinn said: 89 Cali Elite with an aftermarket paintjob as far as I can see. diablo175 Posted April 6, 2016 Author Posted April 6, 2016 pillow case? Full sentences, in this case would be helpful. LOL

cmatthes Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 The finish was actually called "Satin Sheets"... Not one I dig.
cynic Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 The finish has got to be original. Who would fake that?

mc2 Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I have seen real O'Connor Hamer finishes UNsigned. That is real. If it was a setneck Chap I'd be all over it.....Greeeeeennnnn. MMMMMMMMMMMM?

DBraz Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I actually quite like it and if it was a set neck, and the finish carried on all over the guitar, it would look epic!
Disturber Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 Someone actually custom ordered a guitar in "green clown puke"?
Ting Ho Dung Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I like the surf green strat hanging on the wall.

I have no issue with that color of green but the rendering really isn't up to Jim's usual high standards IMO. In it's current state, it does kinda look like a puddle of green vomit. Guess I'm just not a fan of the Satin Shits motif.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I can see the signature right there in the picture. It runs from the low E to the D string, right along the edge of the pillowcase or whatever that is. I can't tell if it actually says "O'Connor" or not, but it is there.

I assume you're referring to my old blue one? I've blown this one up and can see no signature yet. Not denying it's there (somewhere) and I'm not saying this is not a O'Connor but compared to the blue one, in terms of execution and technique, the green one seems less refined and more crude. It's an artist thing. BTW- did anyone notice the additional strap button on the lower horn?

Steve Haynie Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 It looks like sheets thrown in a laundry basket. Original, collectible and rare or not, that one could be refinished.
