ZR Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I recently read two things that peaked my curiosity about Ozzy's treatment of Randy Rhoads and his other guitarists. Or, I guess I should say how did his boss, Sharon, treat them? We all know how the Osborne's chose to screw original band members out of royalties by re-recording the parts they made famous. I was sickened to hear of how great Ozzy is to give Lee kerslake one of his dying wishes of finally getting his gold/platinum albums (whatever they were) for his work on them after almost 4 decades! Then, I read how Vivian Campbell said his deal with Dio (yes, that he agreed to) was no royalties, publishing, nothing for the first two albums except $250 a week in today's dollars the first year, and $1,000 a week on the 2nd. That's for both all the creative work on the albums plus the ensuing tours. He was promised to get some equity on the 3rd album but it never happened and Vivian left. Yes, Vivian agreed to it and it certainly was great exposure. And, he ultimately landed on his feet and hopefully with some money in the bank now, but I felt that was crappy. Anyway, does anyone know what kind of deal RR had with Ozzy? Jake etc?
Steve Haynie Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 When Ozzy hired Randy Rhoads Ozzy really did not have a lot going for him. He got booted from Black Sabbath. Rhoads might have been given a better deal because Ozzy needed a band more than band members needed him at the time.

I would imagine, too, since a number of songs came out of songs he had with the early Quiet Riot, he probably already had rights to those and there couldn't be any denying that some of those songs and riffs were re-used in the Ozzy songs. And again, I think for whatever reason, if Sharon likes someone, they're taken better care of. If she doesn't, they're screwed over. People should stop pretending like Ozzy is blameless here. Maybe the first couple or 80 times it's happened, but even he has to be aware how Sharon is and how she's screwed over these people. His name is on the albums and the tickets.

tbonesullivan Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Sharon's a chip off the old block. Her father was probably the most ruthless manager in UK Music history. I seriously doubt that Ozzy had any real input on how any of the studio or touring musicians were treated. Mentally I always picture him as somewhere between Nigel Tufnel and David St. Hubbins. Pretty much confused most of the time. I also have seen/heard interviews where Ozzy is very broken up about the death of Randy Rhoads. They were quite close, and he "got" Ozzy. They made some awesome music together. Regarding the business side of things, the music industry has always been a giant steaming piece of excrement. Somehow everyone is all chummy until the check comes, and then suddenly everyone wants to come out the best money wise. I don't see why Lee Kerslake wasn't credited on the album, unless they had to pay the other drummer less. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Well, she said they got drunk, so Randy was drunk too. 😏 I also think at this point Ozzy either doesn’t give a shit... or doesn’t understand a shit. 😏

Studio Custom Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Reelz did a story about Ozzy recently where they said members of Black Sabbath said they used to be a metal than did coke, but eventually became a coke band that did metal.
jtees4 Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Sharon made Ozzy a household name after Sabbath. Yeah, she was not a nice person, but a tough manager She DID learn that from her Dad, so did Peter Grant....it worked for both of them, and Ozzy has done great because of it. It's just business.
FGJ Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I always thought The Benny Hill Show was good for a laugh.
