Kamesy 2h ago Wow, Dean is going to outlive Hamer and members of their message board? Whoodathunk it?!? Dime > Rick Nielsen > Ed Rechts
BTMN Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 This is not the full story. From what I saw In February including the new in house paint shop it is my opinion that they are not done. They have dropped Vs and Zs along with the SG like Gran Sport. They have other stuff happening.
DaveL Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 Is that his real mom or the second wife? wow... BTW: I don't know Dean that well but always thought that Elliot was a good caretaker of that name compared to the people before...
scottcald Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 I've read a number of their former endorsers saying after the son took over, they didn't feel like there was anyone there paying any attention to them.

The Shark Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Elliott was a friend. He helped me start my guitar shop in Orlando in 1988. His right hand man Roger consigned fifteen or twenty guitars and sold me about the same amount when I opened. I "jobbed" stuff through them for about a year until I could become a dealer in Orlando. The local music stores tried to keep me from getting A/DA, ART, Alesis and other products. I think he'd be very disappointed in his boy at this point. I know another close friend of Elliott who told me the kid is a "dirtbag". I guess they had some real trouble with him, when he was a teen. For those that don't know, Kapok is in reference to Elliott's buying the old Kapok Tree Restaurant and turning it into a music store. It's Sam Ash these days, if it's still open. Elliott loved that building. I was in his first shop ever (a whole in the wall with mostly acoustics) back in 1977??? Elliott in a "wife beater" and shorts. He was the bass player in White Witch and he became the bass player in UFO for a time. Sorry to see them fighting over the estate.
BTMN Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Actually not UFO but he was Michael Schenker’s bass player for several tours. Sam Ash is still in that building and the family still owns the property. Been to many Dean Owners parties there. The kid seemed genuine whenever I met him but I think he was a good PR rep for himself if you didn’t know day to day.

I just remember Elliott being a huge fan of UFO and telling me playing with Michael was total serendipity. Elliott "Dean" was his stage name!
RobB Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 He played with Uli Jon Roth, too. Saw them at a club down on the peninsula about 10yrs ago. Elliot wore this do-rag with a scraggly, black wig that looked ridiculous. Played well, though.
tbonesullivan Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Ugh, not surprising. Things have not been going well on the legal front for Dean for years now, in fact not long after Rubinson passed away. There was the issue with the Dimebag estate and Dean deciding to trademark the body shape, then there was the artist who did the lightning bolt who claims it's a trademarked / copyrighted graphic. Then came the Gibson flying V Lawsuit, which Dean lost badly.
Biz Prof Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 <Not> Getting back to the OP: These Wulfpeck nerds have made instrumental music fun again. Great rhythm section. Joe Dart is just f'ing sick. Cory has solid funk rhythm chops; of course, a little goes a very long way. Dean Town is a seriously good groove. YMMV.
Tortious Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 More about this mess: https://www.guitarworld.com/news/dean-guitars-armadillo-foreclosure-debts
RobB Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Getting uglier and quite surreal. Makes me a bit sad to see the messy demise of one of my favorite guitar companies.
Steve Haynie Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Two mortgages on the same assets is not a good thing. What was going wrong internally? The Luna line should have seen an upswing during the COVID lockdowns.
