That is a really cool guitar.. does anyone know what the pickups would have been in that? Super distortions possibly?

Most definately Super Distortions.

Both pu's?  Any idea on weight?

That thing has got so much mojo, if I liked playing V's I would be very tempted

Hard to tell from the pic, bridge looks like a SD. But the neck might be one too. No clue on weight, the ad does not say.

Are they neck heavy with that giant Dean thing on the end?

I'm one of the few around that sees Deans as the guitar version of a butterface.

I had to look up butterface lol.. absolutely, I agree with you, can't imagine where that bizarre design came from; in an interview I seem to remember him saying he wanted the guitar to be instantly recognizable as a Dean from the audience, and that headstock certainly does it.. this particular guitar is the first Dean that that headstock isn't an automatic hard pass for me for some reason

Is there not a Robin guitar with a similar headstock?

Machete?

Not really.  Dean designed the headstock to mirror the Flying V body shape:

Some Robins (like that Gemini that @The Shark posted above) had a 4x2 headstock.

An old friend of mine bought a brand new 1980 Left handed Dean Z in some sort of sunburst blue, that glowed under the sage lights.

He custom ordered it....keep in mind that he's a lefty player.

Killer guitar, and he still regrets selling it.

The other guitarist in the band eventually bought a new Dean Cadillac and a BC Rich Mockingbird.

So, at the time, it was a Dean / Hamer / BC Rich lineup.

Not too shabby.

Yeah, I can see that with the ML and Cadillac, and the Dean Baby models.

That’s what a vintage Dean would look like if it sat outside on a really hot day…and melted.
