Theory: re-topped after Kahler/trem-of-some-kind removal. Tailpiece studs moved back to avoid repair area. The top is way too clean vs the wear on the back. IMHO. Cool guitar. Just a few weirdnesses for that kind of money. ...or I'm just smoking crack.

IIRC, way back in the dark ages, when I started drooling over guitars, Gibson listed their top of the line archtop (Super 400) at $1225, with an added $50 for natural. (I guess they were $400 when first produced). So the upcharge is nothing new.

I realized this is another one where I can use my capital one shopping rebates. Apparently I get $25 back if I use ebay (Pro Audio Star has it on ebay). I submitted an offer for $72. I'll give it a shot. Capital One makes you jump through some hoops. I forgot about it so I still haven't redeemed the $90+ I have there. This reminded me to jump through another hoop so hopefully it'll be done soon.
