Not looking for anything in particular.......................would like to find and buy another early Hamer Sunburst 78 79 "Bound and Crowned" and there have recently been several other here on the HFC that have caught my eye for sure. But honestly at 5k plus for some of these guitars that is vacation coin for my wife and I to travel. I paid $1,200.00 for my first B&C'd Sunburst and $1,600.00 for my last one................well prices for those kinds of guitars are long gone now I'm afraid, along with many other things in this day and age. Not complaining these guitars have been undervalued for a long time and are finally getting their due prices. And yes here [the HFC] is where you would want to buy a guitar although I got lucky and found both of my Sunbursts elsewhere, but I DID consult both Steve and Chris about what I was buying beforehand. I saw that "Reissue" Sunburst recently on REVERB and that would be one I would want but at almost 8k that is way out of my buying territory..................I have it, $$$$ but at 71 I just have other things that my wife and I would like to enjoy seeing the sights of the planet.

Went to another guitar show yesterday here in Minnesota, some cool guitar for sure but no Hamer guitars, I have never seen an actual USA made Hamer at any of the guitar shows I have been to and I have been to many over the years. Several imports have been spotted but that is all, the real ones are dust in the wind least around here. I know Knut Koupee the music store here in Minnesota sold those guitars back in the day but............. I DID see a very rare Ibanez copy of a Gibson "CREST" model guitar there for 1K. Should have pick it up but...........

WOW! that is stunning in the best sense of the word. Hamer knocked it out of the park with is guitar. -
Yeah something is certainly only original once......................this one is Hamers second try at doing somethings that the original didn't have...................and of course you have the exclusivity of the build. IMHO not a better guitar but a different guitar. I have owned 2 Sunbursts from 1979 and really liked both of them, but I would definitely enjoy owning one of these.

I posted that here not long ago. great, great guitar. I don't know about better but certainly different. I have owned 2 1979 Hamer Sunbursts but never owned one of these. I talked to one guy who owns one, a member here on the HFC and hopes of him selling me the one he STILL owns. He decided to keep it..................smart guy that he is. It is a rare guitar, not many made as is mentioned in the listing. It is a beauty!

Wild Hamers show up at GC.

With all those unusual Hamers that has to be "DOC" letting a few go. -
Yeah I realize the differences as you mentioned..................didn't mean to infer that they were the same. Just that if I were buying that guitar I would want Crowns instead oof the Victory inlays. I would think these days an all original "Bound and Crowned Hamer "Sunburst" in similar condition with the OHSC from the 70's would sell for that much, maybe more. That IS a beautiful and special guitar!

Well looking at some other Hamer Sunbursts also from that era maybe someone thought they were getting a deal on that one. Look at the asking prices on these........................but asking doesn't mean getting of course. Yeah two of these are "Bound and Crowned" [But was the re necked Sunburst originally a "Dot"? who know and at this point well........... but still, Jesus those prices. PSA: WTF,O!
ARM OF HAMER replied to JGale's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Ah..........................no IMHO that just looks plain silly, why would you do that? and..................................in addition to the silly look the price well, I didn't comment on that because who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for that guitar. -
Steve Vai Hamer "JEM"..............Really?
ARM OF HAMER replied to ARM OF HAMER's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I kind of figured you would know about the guitar Chris. I don't follow Vai or his music much although I'm looking forward to hearing his interpretations of Fripps songs when he tours with Belew, Levin, and Danny Carey. If I would want to buy and own any Hamer artists guitars they would the ones used and owned by Vernon Reid. Great player and very cool guy, met him long, long ago just once. -
Not sure it did have many of the same features as the SG-2000 you can see. It was supposed to be a Japan only issued guitar, not available in the states. I did buy it from a guy that bought it off a guitar site in Japan, he was in the USA and had it on Ebay. The pickups were "Spinex" which were supposed to be some sort of material used in "Aerospace Technology" incorporated into these pickups. To be honest they didn't sound noticeably different to my ears from the pickups in either of my stock Yamaha SG-2000 guitars. Marketing gimmick? Who knows.

Emmett's Doubleneck Yamaha SG.

Here is my SG-2500...................sold to a guy in Australia who had a huge collection of Yamaha SG models. This one was heavy but is sounded great.............."Spinex" Pickups. It had as you can see some of the infamous Yamaha "Finish Fog" or "Finish Blush".
-
Yep I had one like that but the finish was white metallic....................I certainly realize that guitar finishes can darken with age, but it was not a new guitar.............it was from the original run. Supposedly it was Custom Made and once owned by Rik Emmett which I was never able to confirm. Rick was a big Yamaha Guitar endorser he had a Yamaha SG Doubleneck and a Weddington Custom also. I saw Triumph several times and he wasn't playing either of those guitars, he was playing a modified Framus "Jan Akkerman"............the Focus guitarist. The finish on the SG-3000 looked like this guitar I owned for a short time a "Custom Made" SA-2200 model made for EWF guitarist Sheldon Reynolds. Both the SG-3000 and the SA-2200 were sold to a collector in Japan.
-
Thank you for that..................regarding the Weddington. I had white Pearl Metallic SG-3000 and a very rare SG-2500. I wish i would have kept the 2500 I sold, that to another Yamaha collector.................it went all the way from Minnesota to Australia!
-
Those are a fine guitar.....................I had 2 1978 Yamaha SG2000 guitars back in the day, one was pretty light as these go the other was 9.5 Lbs. these days, I have the Yamaha Weddington Custom as my sole Yamaha Guitar and it is also a great one. Congrats on acquiring yours, great top on it as well, mine were both plain.

JFYI. This should take it all out of the finish................. been dealing with "Finish Blush" or "Finish Fog" for years on various Yamaha Guitars. Sometimes moisture gets trapped between the top coat and the color coat. You can polish all you want but it's not going to come out because your only rubbing on the top coat, this works by a chemical reaction to get under that top finish and remove it. This is all-natural cleaner/ wax will get rid of it completely. I bought a 1979 Black Hamer "Sunburst" not long after I joined the Hamer Fan Club and it had some of that fogging on the back and this took it all off the guitar. Works great smells good and it won't harm Nitro or Poly finishes. I have used it on all my guitars with great results.
