  1. i used this last gig;
  2. mitch is good people. he sent me a bunch of cool classical & flamenco DVD's, and some classical books (back when i had classical students). hey mitch, i see you have that new zoom multi FX; stike got one, i think i like it better than his digitech 1101 (or the axe fx & tonelab units i used to have). and yeah, i hate extra stuff lying around too (but i'm cheap so i don't give it away, i sell or trade).
  3. haha! harsh, but its true. i also have a shitty jaded attitude towards original bands; to me, 99.9% of them are mediocre (this includes most of the stuff i've been involved with, too). and, i don't like my stance on this, i honestly wish i liked more stuff. but, it is what it is. like most things in this world, there is a small concentration of amazing stuff, and an unending parade of mediocrity.
  4. fuckin aye. when did tool become unhip??
  5. this! kinda. took lessons when i 1st started in 5th/6th grade; became obsessed, picked it up quickly. changed teachers and took some classical lessons in 6th/7th grade. quit lessons & started on clarinet (then bass clarinet ) in 6th/7th grade, quit that by 9th grade. kept learning guitar by ear & guitar player magazine. took music theory/jazz improv/jazz band in jr college. studied jazz & classical @ U of North Texas, but quit the jazz program at the end of my jr year due to apathy & a lack of sight reading chops (still salvaged a bachelors degree that is 3/4 music). mostly learned by playing gigs in bands from jr high up thru last weekend, primarily hard rawk covers but some original bands and some funk/jazz/top 40 gigs too.
  6. These are fun; (Carry On Wayward Son) (Africa) (Just What I Needed) (Pretty Young Thing)
  7. what's up w/ companies making a sexy product like an electric guitar and then naming it like its an air filter? ibanez is bad about that too, my newer guitar is called something like RGEX$@#EHFM...
  8. i have EMG 81's in 2 ibanez guitars, they are for metal/rawk tones, they sound great for that stuff. as for the other EMG pups, one ibby has a single coil & the other i think has a 89, not crazy about either but i hardly ever use 'em in my metal/rawk playing... but yeah, i think an explorer is a great choice for a dedicated active pup metal/rawk guitar. i have a rio bbq & duncan phatcat in my duotone, which i use for jazz/funk playing (& acoustic duo gigs).
  9. just as impressive as the playing is geoff's video creation/editing skills, pro quality shit there fellas.
  10. i can't believe we made it 5 pages without this....
  11. thank you, glad you like it
  12. stike texted me today; "addy of phys graf", which means he's sight seeing in NYC happy B-day buddy!
  13. is the goonch another name for the 'taint?
  14. jack, did you record this at home or go to a studio? if at home, tell us what recording gear you used (software, outboard gear, mics). the production is killer.
  15. i have done maybe a dozen tunes over the years playing all the instruments (mostly w/ drum machines, but a few had real drums), and i gotta mention how tedious and how much work it was. AND, they were demos, not anything near the high album quality of the goonch.
  16. both. mostly its hitting the green (clean) channel harder so i can get more gain on my rhythm tone. the red channel is gain city, no help needed but the earthtone sounds good on it too. i leave it on all the time.
  17. haha, silly boy. here's my current pedal setup; earthtone boost (from bobbymack), in the loop of my mesa mini recto. a channel footswitch goes out by the micstand. thats it. http://s512.photobucket.com/user/brookskaplan/media/earthtone.jpg.html'>
  18. 1st day off in 6 days, on my 2nd wisers & diet pepsi http://smg.photobucket.com/user/brooks/media/scannerfun6-15-12.jpg.html'>
  19. oh, i went to lighter strings after injuring my hand in my bike accident oct 2010. i did like electric 11's on the duotone for generic hustles jazz/funk shit (tuned to E), but nowadays w/ wizard sleeves hard rawk stuff its 9's on the ibanez.
  20. this. i notice a slight difference in brands, but since changing careers i now shop the clearance bins. i use light gauge acoustic strings (11's w/ a wound 3rd) on the duotone when doing an acoustic gig. i tune to Eb to help w/ vocals and overall heaviness.
  21. 3 names, not one right, ha
