I’m having a quintuple heart bypass tomorrow
hamerhead replied to Victor (Fret Friend)'s topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
We're with you here, too. And you'll feel so much better just in time for yard work! WooHoo! My brother had a 6-way bypass - the most his doctor had ever done - at 81, and says he feels better now than he has in years. Looks better, too...for an ugly old f***er. You are so very fortunate they caught it in time. Good luck! Heal fast! -
That top is fantastic. Congrats!

They got the 'product code' off 2 of the four 3-packs I have. I haven't opened the other 2. They said they hadn't gotten any other complaints. I've used their Regular Slinkys and Hybrid Slinkys for years and never had an issue. These are the first Primo Slinkys I've tried and it hasn't been good. I was buying D'Addarios in the 25-set bulk boxes back when gigging regularly (15 years ago?), and one box had issues with the ball ends coming off. They replaced those as well, which was nice.

This one, Geoff: https://rockvilleaudio.com/collections/pa-subwoofers/products/rbg12s I just run it from the XLR 'out' on one of the the Harbinger subs. Works great. It's a cheap way to save the Harbingers a little abuse, and it has more than enough thump for us old f***ers. I really wasn't expecting it to be that good. They make a 10", 15" and 18", too. The 12" was best for me, both size- and dollar-wise. ....I should get another............hmmmmmmm..........

I bought 12 sets of Ernie Ball Primo Slinkys (.0095 - .044) on sale and 6-out-of-6 of the high E strings have broke while re-stringing. So I told them about it. "It's the guitar", they said. Then I told them it was several different guitars, all of which strung fine with any other string. It's just specifically their .0095s. To make a short story long, they're sending a dozen .009 replacements. Nice. Good job, EB! On the flip side: when we re-did the kitchen I got my wife all new Calphalon stuff - pot and pans, big knife block set and the big spoon/ladle/spatula set. That's not cheap stuff, and when the spoon handles went sticky, I emailed them to see about replacements. Nope. SOL. They wouldn't even stand behind the cheapest shit they sell. Fuck them.

After 3 years or so I don't miss the heavy-ass powered EVs/subs+amp/related crap that these replaced. They won't get as loud, but they never needed to. Plus, the dispersion is far better - you can walk side-to-side in front of them (nearly 180°) and the sound barely changes. The EVs couldn't do that. I set them almost as sidewashes - the band hears them just fine and they sound good out front, too. No more monitors! And for outside stuff I add a 350W 12" Rockville(!) powered sub with 1 XLR and a power cord. Gives it a nice little extra kick.

Is Chet Atkins turning over in his grave?
hamerhead replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I had a Gretsch 5120 Electromatic. It was a great way to find out if the real deal could work for me before spending the big bucks. It was a cool guitar for the $300 or so I paid, and I found out that I'm not so much of a big-body Gretsch guy. I think Chet would understand. Cool guitar, though. Not USA cool, but cool nonetheless. -
Anybody else get a PM lately from 'hsvq1y72'? Got one just now. Says it's our 'newest member'. It asked about a wanted-to-buy item, then tried to connect me with a known scammer email (jmoveinvestment09@gmail.com). What piece of shit tries scamming a guitar board?? Jeezus dude, get a fucking life.

Not a fan but you can't deny his ability to write era-correct pop fluff drivel to a high degree of success. I'm sure he was a wonderful human being. I hope his family finds peace. R.I.P., Mr. Sedaka.

What about the breaking kneecaps part? -
Reverb - does this sound scammy?
hamerhead replied to tommy p's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
What happens if you refuse to ship and just refund his money? Does Reverb send hired goons to break your kneecaps? Sounds sketchy as hell. Good luck with it. -
My go-to has been the 'Lil Texas' from Eminence. 5.8 lbs and a little harsh at first, but breaks-in nicely. The Deluxe Tone Master has a Jensen N-12K Neo which I thought about swapping, but it works really well in there. Neos are the shit. Big fan.

I always liked that crunchy sound they made when you step on them.

Current unit is too harsh (of course) and I'd like to do a single-size humbucker of some kind (no butchery allowed). It has to maintain a good in-between tone when in the 4th position as that gets used the most. Or is there another way to lose that harshness from the current pickup? What say ye?

I haven't played out in a while but it was always 2-3 guitars, a big pedalboard, and 2 amps, with an amp and tiny pedalboard in the car for backups. Today we're doing a thing (house-band-at-a-jam kinda thing) and my gear consists of what will do the job with the least amount of weight - 1 guitar (Daytona), 1 amp (Fender Deluxe Tone Master) and a significantly down-sized board. One trip, bare bones, no backups. It's the first time I've ever chosen gear simply by weight over my usual comfort-food heavy-ass go-to pieces. Anyone else doing that? It feels weird, but I'm the only person who will notice or give a shit.

If you needed to grunt another amp, find one of these: Motion Sound AR-112 Sidewinder. It's 100W (S.S.) with a rotating baffle, about 40 lbs., and does a great (but subtle) real-life Leslie without breaking your back. I've used one at every gig for about 20 years under a variety of Fender amps. You can set the stop, slow, fast and ramp speeds, and the EQ and gain controls are enough to let you find a sweet spot with whatever amp you're using. As a stand-alone amp, it's a little boxy (for my taste). But as an add-on, it literally adds another dimension. Underrated and overlooked. It won't fit on your pedalboard, though.
