  1. Two words: Naph Tha Wear a mask and gloves.
  2. Was the serialization done differently in '78, or might that be #8 0894?
  3. If it's the same one, It is back up for sale here. The photo is so overexposed it's tough to tell if it's masking the grain or if it's an opaque finish.
  4. If I landed my dream gig I'd probably play a single Tally start to finish. The ridiculous amounts of versatility I feel like I need in my bedroom would prove unnecessary in a real music-making situation.
  5. It's probably safe to assume the prototypes pictured in the referenced thread are representative of the final design.
  6. Not to mention the increased likelihood of damage or theft involving more than a couple guitars. Advertising that much candy could lead to you being followed home as well. I suggest the bare minimum, whatever that number might be.
  7. I want to say $800, but something tells me I'm about five years too late.
  8. Heck no! I'd much prefer completely separate ideas from each. Why buy one guitar when I can buy TWO!
  9. Interesting. I don't recall the Gibson raid having anything to do with Brazilian rosewood, but do recall the name Nagel. I agree, if it looks like a bulldog it probably is a bulldog. However, bulldogs bred in other areas can bear a striking resemblance to bulldogs bred in Brazil. As you state, it can take more than a casual inspection to be 100% certain.
  10. Forgive me if the phrase gov't appointed experts carries little weight, but I live in the U.S. I'm curious if the certification stated the wood was in fact brazilian, and if so what tests were done to confirm. Otherwise, did it simply state that if the fretboard was brazilian rosewood, that it was old growth and legal for sale? I ask because I own (and have owned) quite a few vintage Hamer's and have never thought any of the fretboard's might have been more than run of the mill rosewood. To be honest, I own one guitar that has brazilian and I don't get the attraction. That said, as it effects value, it would be good to know. We've also had lots of members here shipping them back and forth across the Atlantic with no incidents that I'm aware of.
  11. I was not aware Hamer was building production electric guitars in the 80s using Brazilian rosewood fretboards.
  12. If it's what you need, order it from Europe. If they don't ship to the US, reach out and see if you can get a member here to give you a hand.
  13. Maybe the back binding is hiding under a layer of wood tarnish
  14. That would never happen with nylon strings
  15. I think he's referring to the price he paid (3890DM) in 1985, not the year the guitar was made.
  16. Not really sure where the 1980 thing came from, but it's made less interesting given it's a '78 The shim is pretty clear in this shot
  17. I'm with mc2, I like it as well. Navigating it is similar to weaving in and out of the piles of trash/treasures back in the pre-internet pawn shop days.
  18. Exactly. As bad as he can be, I still enjoy seeing him play because he just doesn't give a shit that he's become "less than" over the years. He's rock & roll!
  19. This. I'm actually a little surprised at the negative reaction to the Fallon appearance. He's been that bad for a good long while.
  20. A word about the Tally neck, it's not as substantial as displayed in the "boat neck" example above. It's most similar to the Clapton profile. Harder V, less shoulder. "'56 V Neck - .880" at the 1st fret - .980" at the 12th fret, also known as the "Boat Neck", small "shoulders" with most of it's girth at the very center of the back of the neck, this profile is standard on a Fender Custom Shop '56 Strat model"
  21. Presumably, being based on a '56 Strat makes the Tally a boat neck, and it's the most comfortable profile I own (x3). I'm not really a neck profile connoisseur, so I won't try a bunch of flowery words to describe it. I just find having a smaller section of the neck against my hand while playing to be less fatiguing. I can see where it wouldn't be for everyone, but my hands are very prone to numbness and tingling. The way the Tally sits in the hand allows me to play longer with less discomfort or other weirdness. IMO, the feel IS so different from other profiles that you shouldn't take any opinion here as justification to buy one. It's something that should be tried in person.
  22. I can't even play right now and I'm struggling to resist this one. Fair warning (and hopeful thinking), if you're thinking of jumping, it best happen soon.
  23. Covered neck pickup in 0000. Was that the initial plan and the switch to zebra's occurred soon after?
