  1. In a word, yes. The Hamer crew was doing some work for Guild at the same time as well, weren't they? I would imagine that the powers that be were keeping them plenty busy. Maybe Jackass can add info on that if he wishes. BTW, welcome to the HFC, Jackass!
  2. WOO HOO! VERY VERY NICE! For some reason, I want to call it "The Joker". I also want to call Dibs.
  3. As the saying goes, "Trust, but verify." The first part might be optional, depending on the circumstances. Edited to add: The TGP crowd ain't necessarily the same as the HFC crowd. Just sayin'.
  4. Don't forget what Feynman said about the gold hardware!
  5. Higher-end Yamahas are underrated! Great build quality, and used ones don't usually break the bank. Now, if you can just find a minty early '90's Yamaha Weddington Custom... Ain't single life wunnerful? No worries about anybody getting "irritated"...except maybe the neighbors when you crank your amp's volume!
  6. Imagine the disappointment of the Beliebers.
  7. So, if you use Rush stamps for your mail, will it get there faster?
  8. Nickel .009s on electrics, either D'Addario or Slinkys. D'Addario Custom Light (.011-.052) Phosphor Bronze on my Ovation acoustics (non-electric models). Standard tuning, sometimes down half a step, depends on my mood and the weather.
  9. +1! My stepdad used to do exactly this with a little informal music group made up of members from his church. The residents do enjoy and appreciate it, and the players had fun even though it's a community activity thing rather than a paying gig.
  10. The most expensive guitar I own is a USA Hamer...so the value will hopefully be a little north of Tree Fitty to a motivated buyer.
  11. There will be another time, another bargain, they DO happen. Next time, it might be something even better! But I wouldn't look too hard and long, until after school is complete. I am SO glad that I didn't have the Internet(s) around to distract me when I went through school!
  12. I wish I wasn't reminded of this :
  13. Once upon a time, just a couple of years ago, I had three '80 Specials. They all had factory nitrocelluose finishes, playing wear, little dings and scrapes from use, but NONE had any finish checking. Just because it's a nitro finish doesn't mean it'll automatically check IF it's cared for properly, and kept indoors in a climate controlled area, "Closet Classic" reissue finishes or not...though it might, eventually. Wood and finishes do what they want to do, depending on the climate or any changes in it. Taking guitars to a gig, in the case, out into cold weather, leaving them in the cold weather for awhile, THEN bringing them indoors to a warm area and immediately opening the case without any warm-up time, are an almost sure-fire recipe for weatherchecking a nitro finish. I also once had a early '80's Blitz with a Sustain Block trem, it had the exact same two-ply plastic spring cavity cover. Yes, they don't match the aluminum control cavity panel; and yes, they look cheesy; but apparently they're original. I think Andrew has mentioned them before. $1200? I'll pass. I don't have the fundage even if I wanted to. Edited to add: I never go only on anybody's use of the words "Mint" or "Near Mint", when they describe something that is used (or "pre-owned") for sale. Ever.
  14. I thought it was Archtop Custom in '95? Hamer did the name game on this particular model a little too often, I think...
  15. No affiliation. It's a real nice looker IMO, but not for the weak of wallet: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=111031976969&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
  16. Ed Roman is dead, but his legacy lives on in SO many ways.
  17. I wonder, when Fender came to pack up the wood, if it went anything like this? I dunno about Fender's "Select Series" getting the woods from Hamer's stash...rosewood fretboards? Maybe. Figured maple tops? Maybe (and I'd bet they'll cut them as thin as possible). The mahogany? Not for the "Select Series" so far, the bodies are all either alder, ash, or "Empress" (paulownia). For something else, apparently...but what? That "inset" rosewood fretboard that the "Select Series" uses makes me wonder if THAT isn't a cost-saving action, as far as the rosewood goes...maple is cheaper than rosewood and a lot more "renewable", and you can't tell how thick the rosewood fingerboard is in that neck. Also, witness that Fender has started putting a lot of "round laminated" rosewood fingerboards on some of their CS reissues, instead of the thicker "slab" rosewood fingerboards. Granted, "round laminated" rosewood fingerboards ARE period-correct for pretty much any '60's reissue (Fender originally started using them in late '62, because supposedly necks with "slab" boards were prone to warpage. Yeah, that doesn't quite make sense to me, either.), but I'm still suspicious. Especially since Gibson is making do with two-ply rosewood fretboards, either out of necessity or to cut costs, or both.
  18. +1, I'm curious about that as well! Hamer ALWAYS had a great stash of woods. Look at Gibson, they've been reduced to using multi-piece Mahogany bodies and two ply Rosewood fretboards on a lot of their guitars in very recent years, they've had to save their one piece woods for the primo expensive gear. Not that those Fed raids helped in any way, BTW.
  19. Eccccch! MOTS (Mother Of Toilet Seat), indeed! The body color and the pickguard together look very '70's. And I don't mean that in a good way.
  20. I think that the last "off the rack" (regular production) USA Hamers came out of the shop in very early 2010, but I could be wrong...I'm sure some more knowlegeable HFC members can elaborate. Willcutt has had that particular stash that they've trying to sell off for quite a few years now. This thread can tell you the status of Hamer: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/57503-well-it-was-fun-but-its-over/ Moderators: can we pin BCR Greg's topic, or one that's similar that fits the bill? I get the feeling that more people that haven't heard about Hamer going away for good are gonna ask us the same question over and over and over again. In the meantime, if you REALLY want a 2013 Hamer, go talk to Fender. Edited to add: If you want to know WHY Hamer is gone, you've actually given part of the reason: " I'm too cheap to buy a new Hamer because they depreciate too much. However if they fired up the factory I'd have no problem buying a second hand 2013 model."
  21. Wait...did I miss something recently? Um...define "recently"...
  22. A couple of years ago, Willie's once had a used '90's Hamer USA Studio GT (Goldtop, with P-90's) that was priced LOWER (under a grand, IIRC) than a used '90's Hamer USA TV Yellow Special that they had...AND it was in better shape, too. One of our HFC members snagged the GT, but it eventually wound up back at Willie's. Ever since then, I've kinda lost interest in what they have listed, regardless of what it is.
  23. If that one is $85,000, then this one must be a steal: http://www.ebay.com/itm/DUMBLE-OVERDRIVE-SPECIAL-FULL-RIG-Estate-Items-in-Mint-Condition-/271149509473?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f21c52b61 I'm glad you posted this auction site, I just read the Dan Forte article quoted there...so NOW I've got a better idea on what using a Dumble's all about. I guess I must've lead a sheltered life, I've always heard about Dumbles, but never really knew what the fuss was about, or the history around them. This article gets to what I needed to know. It makes me even MORE glad now, that I'm a crappy guitar player with a limited budget. Or a limited guitar player with a crappy budget.
