This may get me banned, but... I arrived at college in the Fall of 1982. I was immediately informed (independently) I had to like Jimmy Buffet and Bruce Springsteen. "Well, up all of ya'll's," I said. I liked exactly one song from each of them, "Why Don't We Get Drunk (and Screw)," and "Pink Cadillac," respectively. Couldn't stand their other output - on purpose. I had "Parrot Head" fraternity brothers that were an absolute nuisance, but only when the JB music was blasting. Go figure... My roommate for one year was a "Boss" fan. We got along splendidly, except when I just had to listen to this song or that. Go figure... I can appreciate the undeniable talent of Croce, Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, all that soft acoustic fingerpicked business, but I can't take the utter slash-my-wrists delivery. I am sure it speaks only to my shallowness or maybe because that stuff was on AM radio as I experienced some of the most traumatic and dreadful days of my entire life (i.e., elementary school). 😆

One of my bosses has a fiver version of that that I've wrenched on from time to time. Like you said, it isn't great, but it is a perfectly serviceable bass and incredibly light for a five-string. He's used it regularly in the P&W band at his church for around 30 years.

One of my favorite all time artists. I heard SATFS on AM radio all during my childhood. Years later (teens) I caught grainy video footage of Woodstock and was floored by some unknown funk band that came on in the wee hours that (IMO) blew everyone away - had no idea who it was at the time. His music is on regular rotation in most every playlist I have. What's that Rick? Tragic! Absolutely tragic.

I didn't know if the Korean models ever had a 2-Tek or not, but I thought I could just make out USA on the headstock. After zooming in I'm not so sure.

Too bad @Punkavenger isn't around anymore. He was in Portland (IIRC) and always super helpful.

Got around to starting this over the weekend (I lack around 20 minutes). Random thoughts: I have thoroughly enjoyed everything so far. The amazing thing for me is that, since Page was so established at the time there's video/photographic footage of the entire genesis. What other band has such? I mean, the first concerts in Scandanavia? The other point that struck me was how humble everyone seems about the whole thing and how complementary they are of each other - like mature adults. The audio from the unearthed Bonham interview was interesting and edited in well, allowing the other members to respond and expand. I think the most significant thing I've learned so far is how this was a Page thing from the beginning - his vision and his execution. I didn't understand that.

Well. This has left me pondering. I did chuckle when I saw the guitar player (with an SG) begin to rock back and forth.

Came here to post that very thing. @Willie G. Moseley beat me to it. I thought that was expressly stated in the Netflix documentary. Norm's lost it? Unlikely? ETA: Google AI confirms it (FWIW): The iconic cherry red Gibson ES-345 guitar used in the movie Back to the Future was borrowed from Norman's Rare Guitars in Los Angeles. Norman Harris, the owner of Norman's, initially warned the filmmakers that the ES-345 was not the correct instrument for the 1955 setting of the movie, as it was released in 1958. Despite this, the filmmakers chose to use the ES-345 for its look, as they wanted a slimmer and more streamlined guitar. The guitar's iconic status has led to a global search by Gibson to find it, as it was lost after the film's production. A documentary, "Lost to the Future"., is also being produced to celebrate the movie's 40th anniversary and document the search for the guitar. The ES-345's unique features, such as the solid parallelogram inlays at the 12th fret and a custom-ordered or factory second, are being used to help identify it if it's found.

This is a pic of my F-hole Gibson factory harness coming out. I built an RS harness with their pots and caps to replace it. Now that I've experienced the difference, I'd like to change it to 50's wiring, but good grief the hassle to move two wires!

Was your previous harness "50's style" (as above)? If not, how do you like the difference? I have moved mine over to this and find it far more useful. I really like the taper on the RS pots. I have them in another Gibson along with their caps.

This came up in my feed this week but being skeptical I didn't watch it. I clicked on it here and got pulled in. Interesting approach. Reminds me of that guy who was redoing the Faded Les Pauls back in the 90's or 00's. Can't remember the name or really what all he was doing. Thinning the neck was almost too much to bear, but the rest of it was really cool (not a fan of beating up a guitar intentionally, but that's personal preference along with the R8 neck girth). I do say I prefer his relic job on the neck to anything I've seen done on any of the Fender variants where they simply strip off the finish. I like it, but I'll stick with my '19 plant guitar. It's way too good for my level of talent. Kudos to those whose talent / means merit something like this.

I have never been around a single Klon (I mean, what would a $$$$ pedal be doing between the swamps, really?) until I went to see Kevin Eubanks in concert. Playing was brilliant, but I noticed every time he went to a dirty tone it was terrible. Like JC120 distortion terrible (anyone else remember that?). He had only a few pedals on the floor and after the concert I edged up to the stage to see what he had. Klon. I never actually wanted one due to the price, but after that I really was never even curious.

What's it like?

Wasn't a fan in the 80's (my head was too far up SRV's butt to care), but this popped up in my Spotify feed yesterday just as I was beginning my workout. I found it very musical, melodic and absolutely unrelenting. Great workout playlist.

Oh my!

We shipped three pallets of four (very large) batteries each, Tennessee to Colorado, with an LTL carrier. The entire shipment went missing. Located three weeks later... in Mexico. Well, one pallet with a couple of batteries was located...

I still have a running Search on Reverb for these... ... and after a year I still have had nothing turn up...

Tell me more! I look for excuses to NOT drive to Memphis (50 minutes), but a Moroccan restaurant might leave me without a sufficient excuse!
