  1. I certainly have no idea, but I am certain those who do would love to see a photo or ten. 😉
  2. Wait? MIT Tom Scholz couldn't find anyone to fix an analog recorder? He's Tom Scholz - the engineer that created an entire sound out of whole cloth. We're to believe he couldn't fix it himself (much less find someone to do the work)? 🤣
  3. Seriously, $150 was the price I anticipated when I clicked the link. I don't recall seeing one for less than that in a really long time. Whether that is a good price or not is up to the buyer (I've never even considered buying one). That one is not in terrible shape relatively speaking.
  4. Thanks so much for that! "Cramming" is a good word for how I'm trying to get the 215s to fit - not terribly comfortable. I'll try those tips.
  5. That's a cool site. Been over 40 years since I had organic chemistry, but it's interesting nonetheless. Further down it describes the different Nylons and I recall some discussion, maybe from @murkat about which of these was in the vintage Gibsons. Thanks for posting that. A great swath of weeds!
  6. Second perfect guitar in as many weeks. Bad time for the guitar account to be so desperately low... Vintage Carve and crowns... grrrrrrrrr!
  7. I've been telling you...
  8. Not even kidding: I read your post and as soon as I read that sentence, instantly in my mind I hear Richard Pryor's voice. It was from an album a buddy had snuck out of his parent's collection, "I was born in Peoria, Illinois." and then someone in the crowd yells, "What's that?!" and then Pryor shuts him up really quickly (I won't continue quoting because of Pryor's use of a word that is no longer used, but he berates the guy as being a bumpkin... in a manner of speaking). Hysterical! This has been a "why is that still stuck in Jeff's head after fifty years?" moment. Back to your normal programming.
  9. Not to get in the weeds... okay, yep, I'm in the weeds: is the nylon available today the same nylon? Or was the original nylon discontinued because of some conspiracy (and by conspiracy, I do not mean 'found by the State of California to be a carcinogen,' i.e., the subset otherwise known as "matter.")? And I ask absolutely not due to tone, or, excuse me, TONE, concerns but strictly for functional concerns.
  10. This video came out around the time I was changing strings on my Lester (couple of years ago). I tried it and have been doing it this way ever since. I have plenty of break angle at the nut and the tuning is much more stable.
  11. By "above," do you mean the linked Amazon IEMs? I should have done more research as I went with the recommended Shure 215s at around twice that price - am I getting twice the performance? Ah, not likely, but that was what was recommended based on price/performance. This is my first experience with IEMs (required because we're playing with a click and cues). I just need something that can get louder than the tinnitus! The Shures have been fine, just spendy.
  12. One other question as it relates to maintaining the sound I have without a volume pedal: anyone using a buffer prior and the low impedance (25kΩ) volume pedal rather than just going straight into a normal impedance volume pedal (250kΩ)? If that works better, my tuner has a nice buffer and it could go between the guitar and the volume pedal.
  13. 🤣 Exactly what I was thinking! Watching that video gave me deja vu of when I was a little kid watching Midnight Special or Don Kirchner's Rock Concert and the lead guitarist was just killing it, but the camera was trained on the bass player or the high hat or some such, then, as soon as the lead was over the camera went back to the lead guitarist. Frustration!
  14. Seriously, if you need a phaser (and don't we all), I've not heard the equal to the "Reed Weech" (IYKYK) Moon Phaser.
  15. You likely know this, but the SPC ("Strat Presence Control") and the 89 in full humbucker mode get into some not-too-good distortion. I had an 85 in my HSS Charvel back in the 80's and called (of course, no email) EMG about the distortion I was experiencing. They told me the SPC was designed to give the "singles" a more humbucker sound by manipulating certain frequencies. They did not recommend engaging it with their humbuckers. EMG Pickups / SPC / Electric Guitar Pickups, Bass Guitar Pickups, Acoustic Guitar Pickups I bought / installed the 85 just months before they came out with the 89. EMG were incredibly helpful in helping me use capacitors and resistors along with a modified five-way to produce a split sound in the 4 position. You didn't ask for all that, but I type it to point out they were absolutely incredible with support, especially given communication at the time was via toll long-distance phone calls and USPS. They mailed me schematics and followed up to get feedback on the results. Great people!
  16. No idea, but I'm willing to wager the term "Gristle" is involved.
  17. Thanks for posting. The first interview was a must see for me. Can't wait to watch this second take. I run sound at church. A static location is nothing compared to the completely foreign environments this guy had to face every single event. I consider the issues I face each event and then consider those within the context of different venues, different artists (different everything) and I am completely floored with the guy.
  18. Is this another pawnshop find? Dude, you are the Pawn Shop King!TM ETAsk: does it, by chance, have the Vintage Carve neck?
  19. Prayers, absolutely prayers. Follow the recovery regimen and you'll be back to operations and you'll feel much better. My dad went through this years ago and just celebrated his 87th birthday. He was amazed at how much better he operated with open arteries!
  20. Good grief. It's perfect and perfectly priced. For those reasons juxtaposed the miniscule balance in my Guitar Account, I'll have to avoid this thread... I hope it sells very, very quickly!
  21. Really great (very) 80's album:
