Guest pirateflynn Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That's the perfect amount of Prince for me. I enjoyed it and he sure can play!
BTMN Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Yeah man, that was real tasty. Nice doing the Foos tune too.
DavidE Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Cool singing and playing in the pouring rain~!I really have no interest in this game...
rmahurin Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 The Floyded Strat was cool. Looked like it might have been a Charvel. Just glad he got through it all without being electrocuted.
Matt Mattson Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Just glad he got through it all without being electrocuted.Me too. I kept thinking all that stuff would be the perfect lightning rod.
atquinn Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That half-time show was good stuff! I thought one of his dancers was gonna do a face-plant somewhere in there for sure, but everyone pulled it off.
tremolux Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 He rocked it! the "all along the watchtower" lines caught my attention. I was thinking sombody would be impaled by his pointy fish-hook guitar when he hucked it at the end!!
mattb Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I only tuned in for a bit to watch him. Dude can rip. Awesome show, waaaay better than last year. Damn well done for pouring rain.
sw686blue Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Smokin' guitar player. Awesome tone, even in the rain!
FrankieII Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 He certainly took Yngwie's advice of "PLAY LOUD!!!" You can tell the Purple Rain solo is always his favorite to play...
GusS Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 about a year ago somebody posted a youtube link of him playing on a live tv show (maybe snl) what i believe was a recent tune.. anybody still have it?
tomteriffic Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 He did some stuff a while back on the RnR HoF show that got my attention for sure. This was great.
MTM105 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Are there any artists out there that makes a Tele sing like him????
cmatthes Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That was a great little interlude. Covering the FOO?!!?!Grohl's gotta be on cloud 9. That was great.
tafkathundernotes Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Just glad he got through it all without being electrocuted.Me too. I kept thinking all that stuff would be the perfect lightning rod. He was all wireless, and in no more danger than anyone else on the field.
thecajunboy Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Enter the opposing opinion.I waited anxiuosly for the show. I watched intently, and was rather unimpressed after it was over.
Eric Weston Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Enter the opposing opinion.I waited anxiuosly for the show. I watched intently, and was rather unimpressed after it was over.+1......Prince is better than that....I'm stealing some of his moves though :lol
cmatthes Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 While I agree that Prince is far better than that, given the conditions, the network/FCC scrutiny (!!!) and the venue, I thought it was great that he didn't lip-synch some BS and actually PLAYED GUITAR.Was it his best night? Not by a longshot. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. The fact that there was no Prefab boy or girl band or rap BS flash out there made it a good one for me.
elduave Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 BLEW ME AWAY! LOVED IT!Adding to the fun-Michael Wilbon on Prince:Usually at halftime, I'm busy writing frantically because deadlines are tight at night...But I wouldn't be writing tonight at hafltime. I'm a total Prince groupie...and have been since 1978 when his first album came out...We're the same age, so were 19 then...I parited with The Twins, Prince's scandalously hot twin dancers, Thursday night on South Beach at Shaq's party...I see football all the time, but there's never enough Prince. The last time I watched the halftime show intently was Janet and Justin...Price in the rain...How unbelievably cool is this? It's like he's not even getting wet.Tony's a rock-and-roll guy so he probably doesn't even care about Prince. This ain't Mr. Tony music, although this song "The Best of You" sounds rock-like...to much metal for true R&B fans. But part of the attraction to Prince, I'm sure, is that he plays everything masterfully. He's suposed to do 12 minutes total...Oooh, "Purple Rain." Okay, this has to be the finale...You can't do something after "Purple Rain" when it's raining...Unless he wants to do a little "Darlin' Nicky" which I know he won't do...Prince had a religious conversion of sorts a few years ago and doesn't do stuff like "Soft n' Wet" and "Sexy M.F." and "Do Me Baby." I hate that he doesn't do overtly sexy songs anymore, but what can you do? It's like being angry over Art Monk not being voted into the Hall of Fame...
Guest Mike Lee Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 If Prince had just been a guitar player who sings and fronted a rock band he would have been just as famous, maybe even more so, at least among rock fans.I liked the halftime show because he actually played. It's tough to do something like that since the stage is set up in like 10 minutes and there's no sound check.
unobuc Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Really enjoyed his playing though as a rule I despise the overproduced overhyped super halftime shows in general. I would much rather see/hear great marching bands perform as a matter of footbal tradition. I realize its done for the TV audience vs. the folks in stands however and the tv ad dollars do the talking.
kizanski Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 His Royal Badness slayed - plain and simple.I love that he stripped the band down to the minimum of pieces and is just focussing on the music and getting away from all of the theatrics (not that I mind looking at the dancers). To get up there with no pre-recorded BS and just rip (and WELL) just shows you how awesome a player and performer he really is.
Hackubus Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 I thought it was cool. Probably the most guitar licks thrown down at a halftime show EVAH.
Stike Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Yes he rocked but the Garmin commercial had the shredding going ON!
