veatch Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Congrats! That top is unbelievable... If it sounds half as good as it looks... Well, you know the rest.
Steve Haynie Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 That is some beautiful figuring on that top. Let us know if you notice the tonal differences Jol wrote about in his blog.
bobbymack Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Well, this guitar arrived today, and it sucks ass. I keed, I keed. It is unquestionably the finest Hamer I've ever owned (of 11 or 12 USAs), and possibly the finest guitar period. The top is drop dead gorgeous with deep 3D ribbon curls in addition to the mineral streaks / bog sludge stains etc. The craftsmanship and setup are flawless, except for a tiny stick in the B nut slot which I'll fix tomorrow. The neck is a killer soft V, with a real nicely grained Brazilian fretboard. The pickups go from jangly clean to roaring P90ish with a spin of the knob, with alot of territory in between. The 4 way selector switch is perfect, with the series setting giving a nice humbucker growl. The guitar has a little bit of tele twang, even a bit of Ricky jangle when clean, a good bit of strat snap, some P90 roar when turned up, as well as the bucker growl when in series. Sweet! Sustain block bridge. And only one Victory inlay which is nice. Also, a back pleasing (and harmonically rich) 7.2 lbs! Honeymoon for sure, but this guitar is slaying me so far. A truly state of the art creation.
Guest pirateflynn Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 That's a great review from a LP man. Congrats!
veatch Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 The craftsmanship and setup are flawless, except for a tiny stick in the B nut slot which I'll fix tomorrow. I had to clean the slots on the B and G strings on the Earthen Maple Studio i have too... Glad the guitar kicks. Congrats! Oh, yeah, and we need pics...
