seeker Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Sorry, I can't see GP, What's the Newport? Can you copy/paste the same add here? Here are the pics. The Studio seems to have a spruce top. It's an all-mahogany Special, iirc. http://images.lilypix.com/displayimage.php...=1817&pos=4http://images.lilypix.com/thumbnails.php?album=2399
atquinn Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Sorry, I can't see GP, What's the Newport? Can you copy/paste the same add here? Here are the pics. The Studio seems to have a spruce top. It's not a Studio Ultimate, it's a solid mahogany Special (no carved top) with ultimate binding. I was going to correct the seller, but I figured anyone dropping that much for it would recognize what it was from seeing it here?-Austin
burningyen Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Wow, I hope you're able to hold onto the Hamer, Art. I would call it a Special rather than a Studio since it has a flat top. The pickups are SD '59s, and it's a one-piece mahogany body, no spruce. It's an amazing sounding and playing guitar. It was one of my main gigging guitars in my old Jack Devine band days. The only reason I sold it was because my Floyd band has had me on Strats exclusively the past few years, and that guitar was screaming at me to be played.

I'll make the change on the Gear Page.
gregc Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I 'always' loved Ben's Special. I wish I could snag it now.
Guest pirateflynn Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 What color is the Special? Vintage Orange? and the back, what color is it? Any more pics?
kizanski Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 IIRC, it was natural mahogany - front and back.BCR Greg would know for certain if Ben can't recall.
silentman Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I recall it being all mahogany. Ultimate binding (if they would do it on a non ultimate) is a huge upcharge.
burningyen Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 The color is technically Aztec Gold. I liked that orange/amber tint that it gave to mahogany.
Guest pirateflynn Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Boy, I like that guitar. Smart combo of options there. Simple but elegant.
serial Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Boy, I like that guitar. Smart combo of options there. Simple but elegant.Even more stunning in person IMHO.
burningyen Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Oh yeah, I forgot to add that a long time ago BCR/Greg asked Hamer about binding a mahogany top for me and was told no. Apparently it's a difficult thing to do since mahogany has a tendency to splinter. Then some of you may remember when Jol finally "threw down the gauntlet" and agreed to take a bunch of crazy orders like this one. So we snuck this one though. I don't know if they will ever do it again.

bubs_42 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Fantastic guitar ! Love everything about it..
Special J Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Absolutely stunning. So wish I had the dough lying around.
edgar_allan_poe Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 the coolest Hamer ever IMHO. Absolutely jaw dropping in person and IIRC the upcharge for that was absolutely insane.
specialk Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 God knows I'm so broke I can't even pay attention these days, but I haven't seen a price tag on this beauty. Can anyone clue me in on a price for the Special Ultimate? Thanks!
