Feynman Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I was looking through my PhotoBucket account and noticed that I have had 14 different electric guitars since February 2007. I know I'm completely nuts sometimes, but this surprised even me. I'm a "one guitar" kind of person, so I guess this was my way of trying a variety of them. Perhaps I should start keeping multiples so I have visual evidence of my condition.Anyone here bought and sold this many guitars in this sort of time period?Just trying to get a picture of where I stand on the guitarmadness scale...My old 14...
discountsounds Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 When I had money, I cycled through a lot of guitars. Now I'm broke and I'm clinging to what I've got. Can't say I've felt a real pang as if I'm missing something from my collection, so I guess it's a good thing.
kizanski Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Anyone here bought and sold this many guitars in this sort of time period?Just trying to get a picture of where I stand on the guitarmadness scale...There was a time where I went through guitars like sweat socks, so I'm sure I at least matched that level of madness. So, yes, that's up there on the guitarmadness scale.
BTMN Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I'm right there with you only I tend to keep'em around.

Armitage Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 ...and I'm not sure how many he kept and sold...But fun aside, I collect pieces to love and play. It's not a contest.
kizanski Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 It's not a contest.Then I just lost interest.
atquinn Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 The past 18 months: Black chambered Studio Custom with ebony fretboard Blue Studio Custom with ebony fretboard Aztec Gold chambered Studio Custom with ebony fretboard Newport Pro with flamed maple top and ebony fretboard Green Diablo with ebony fretboard Natural Diablo II with ebony fretboard Red Diablo with maple fretboard Green Eclipse Setneck Californian T51F Mirage II with aftermarket Fishman piezo Zion The Fifty (tele) PRS artist model CU22 soapbar McInurff Monarch (See a theme to the Hamers? ) So that's at least 14. Those are just the ones I've bought (that I can remember). If also you count the ones I've had since then (ie. I had them on Feb 07, but sold them after that), then I would have to at least add my '06 Studio and the Special I won (along with one or two others I can't remember), which would bring the total to at least 16. Sad. -Austin

zorrow Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 A more accurate measure of GAS madness would be the GMI (GAS Madness Index): GMI = (Income after taxes per year) / (Money spent on gear per year) But the normalized GMI (NGMI) would be even more accurate: NGMI = ((Income after taxes per year) - (Youtr yearly cost of living)) / (Money spent on gear per year) The higher the NGMI, the less crazy you are, while scoring on the NGMI close to 1 or below, means "divorce" if you're married.

Well, I'm not a hoarder, so even though I might buy 12 guitars in a year, I'll be selling 10 or 11. Therefore by NGMI is very high and my continued marital bliss is assured -Austin

Rocktuna Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 A few years ago I had 4 guitars then I bought my first Hamer. A little less than a year later I realized I had 12 Hamers and a total of 22 guitars. I decided to limit myself to 10. Presently I have 1 Hamer and 9 guitars total.
