I don't need to hear this...hard to imagine. Another great guitar at the wrong time...
specialk Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I think this is the same guitar:http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28661
bubs_42 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 My 4 digit is the best $1700 i've ever spent!
Pieman Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 The seller will ship overseas. With the the almighty dollar down 20%+, somebody in Europe will be paying about $5500 or less for this. Thank you Mr. Bernanke for offshoring our Hamers.

Thank you Mr. Bernanke for offshoring our Hamers. For us Europeans Hamers are imports however. - except the Schaller tuners. They, finally, come back home. Therefore, Hamers are a sort of German-American-Friendship-Project.
peedenmark7 Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 the europeans other than the low dollar exchange rate are not much better off than we are... I've spoken to many who are feeling the pinch.I dont think this is so much economy driven as it is the normal hamer cycle.seems the standard sell off much like yosemite is long over due for a purge, this may be it . I dont expect all to sell for their asking or even to reserve, but who knows... many have been waiting in thew wings for this event.its good time to spend some of your 401k on guitars t...market will swing back around and you will see guys selling stuff for way more than they paid for it... its the natural cycle of collecting taking place.
Steve Haynie Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 In the past month I have sold three steel guitars on eBay. All three went to Europe-- France, Belgium, and England. The buyers all knew to expect $130 - $150 in shipping plus import customs duties.

The buyers all knew to expect $130 - $150 in shipping plus import customs duties. To let the cat out of the bag. Although extensive shipping rates+ credit card fees + customs + VAT apply, there still remains a little price advance on a Dollar to Euro rate of ~$1.50. That's what it is at the moment. For what I read in the financial press, there is extensive short selling on the Dollar at the moment that will have to be bought back as soon as interest rates would increase. So, when the economy recovers Bernanke will act to increase interest rates that will blow the short-sell bubble then. Until then, it's a buyers market for Europeans.Happy selling guys.

Until then, it's a buyers market for Europeans. Actually, he has to wait until the market re-buys some of the 3 trillion worth of junk the Fed had to buy so the world would not implode. So, he has plenty of time...and you have plenty of time to buy US stuff.
serial Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 For a very late four digit, I think that price is nuts, but what the hell. If someone offered me that for #0096, I'd probably take it and it's a one of a kind-they only did three bluebursts and mine's the only bound and crowned one!
cmatthes Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 But you wouldn't because that goes to me next, right?
The Shark Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 This guitar was offered to me months ago, when I was still looking. I won't comment on the value, but it is a peach. I don't, however, think a huge purge of Standards is in our future. When there are this few guitars, I think hoping to be a "beneficiary" might be the best chance!
