I'm @ Flatrock Playhouse in NC all month, doing "For The Glory" the civil war musical ( yes you read that right LOL )

We're rehearsing for my second "gig" ever! It's only some guy's retirement party, but it's fun anyway!

My first "gig" was some other guy's retirement party 3 years ago.

On June 12, Cool Disposition will be playing 2 shows (6:30 and 8:30) at Famous Dave's BBQ Blues Fest at Peavey Plaza, Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.

On June 25th we'll be at Neumann's bar in North St. Paul

Interesting you should post this.

I am going to do a Battle of the Bands performance tonight...in about 4 hours.

I have a video camera; if it turns out well, I may post it on YouTube. In any case, I'll provide a "gig" report.

I had already been considering joining a band to help provide impetus to get rid of some of my guitars (on the idea that the more I gig certain guitars and don't gig certain guitars, the more clear it will be which ones I can and can't do without, and I won't regret selling some of 'em to think the herd).

The success and enjoyment I've had making music with 3 strangers thrown together has convinced me I've got to get back into doing it regularly.

Unfortunately, I'm not using a Hamer for this gig.

I almost forgot, so silly of me, I'm playing next week, Thursday, with two cool bands. shoud be fun. Indie-rock Thursday!

I've got a couple this month:

June 11 I'll be out with my new band That's What She Said at Snappers in Mechanicsburg, PA and we'll have so e special guests including CMatthes.

I'm playing with my other band (Forever Strange) on June 19 at the Double K in Harrisburg, PA.

I'm playing out for the first time in 6 months and the first time EVER (gulp!) on bass. At a Kwik-E-Mart. For a cruise night. On Tuesday. From 6 'til 8.

With a total of one rehearsal under our belts, it should be interesting if nothing else! :P:P

Between my acoustic gigs, band gigs and now country band gigs, I have a pretty busy gigging schedule.

Curious as to how you are amplifying your sound for the acoustic gigs? What kind of guitar pickup and are you using an amp, or throught the PA?

What do you think of the Braggs Direct/Para-eq? Thanks!

I'm doing about 7 or 8 "acoustic" gigs per month and looking for more. I use a Hamer Artist 25th Anniv. or a Carvin Bolt strat-o-copy both with the Graph-Tech Ghost pickup system. I run it straight through a compressor and into the mixer. Never tried the Baggs unit myself

For acoustic gigs, it's usually an Ovation through some pedals into a Bose L1. Love it.

Baggs makes some good pickups and the Para DI is a good piece of gear. Their new Venue DI is good as well.

That place we play at called Hard Racks ... it's a huge billiards and dance club. The bathrooms aren't labeled "women" and "men," or "ladies" and "gentlemen."

They're labeled "Racks" and "Balls" LOL!!

I can't wait to get out to LA.

Who's out there that we should strongarm into attending our shows?

I know we'll see Pam, and I've been in touch with pirateflynn. Anyone else?

*sigh* I wish my band had a schedule like jisham's. We're only playing once this month on 6/19. We may record a new demo so that will take my mind off it a little.

It's very discouraging that my town is THE worst for getting into new places. When I do manage to wrangle us into a gig, we get tons of compliments and we're always been asked but getting that first one in a new place is a bitch! Any advice on salesmanship would be appreciated.

Couple things have really helped my band get up and running:

1. Fortunately, we've all been in area bands before so we all pooled and wrote down every club contact we personally knew.

2. We found someone NOT IN THE BAND to make the actual contacts with the clubs. For whatever reason, this has turned out to be a key as it removes the "personal" from band members and the booking people. We use our drummer's wife, and she's been great at it.

3. You gotta have a professional appearance with a website and on Facebook and/or MySpace. We don't use MySpace but our FB page is quite active. I'm thinking about starting a Twitter account next.

4. We play southern rock and southern rock only. While that genre does preclude us from some of the live music clubs that cater mostly to college students, it works to our advantage elsewhere because our song list is way different from the bazillion other area bands that all play the same classic and modern rock tunes. We have a very specific music niche and so far, everywhere we've played we've hit a home run.

5. YouTube: More than one club we've booked has viewed our videos to instantly see and hear us, and those videos have sealed the deal for us a few times so far. It's easy to set up a Flip Video and hit record. One thing we haven't done, though, is make sure the video shows the crowd enjoying us so I'm going to make a point to tape those. If you look at Jeff R's band site and pics, you'll see they always show the crowd having a good time...club owners wanna see that too.

EDITED TO ADD: Having said all of the above, the biggest factor is that we're in a metropolitan area I bet...Baltimore, so the cadre of clubs to play is huge. Lots of the clubs "talk" to each other as well and we've been able to gain good references.

Update:

We won the Battle of the Bands in a landslide.

I'll post videos on YouTube within a week.

Sweet...congrats!

2nd to last acoustic gig before Dave moves to VA and we're done.

Been 7 years (and 2 years playing every week at Grey's, who have been very good to us).
