MCChris Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Which one and why?Chords without a sharp, flat or number in them are not allowed. Nor are chords that don't exist.
Guest teefus2 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 i always liked those 7sus4 chords that alex lifeson and andy summers used alot. i like using inversions where the third is on top too. it fills everything out nicely in a two guitar band.
Brooks Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 i like the ol' miles davis "so what" chord, "6/9 no 3rd".from low note, its 6, 9, 5, 1. the lack of a 3rd makes it open & ambigious sounding.---3---3--2--2--------
DaveL Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I don't know what it's called but it'sthe one during the slow part of Weezer'sUndone (sweater song)...
hardheartedbill Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 shit, no contest, the E7#9! ( the purple haze chord )
jujisque Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 7 (+11) because then you can get your lydian dominant groove on7 (+5)9 hooray for the whole tone scale!
savethematches Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Don't know whatcha call it, but it goes something like this here . . .e--3b--3g--od--2a--oe--xI see it as an A power chord with a G power chord stacked on top. I use it in place of Am in a G progression.

Guest teefus2 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 that d with the f# on the low "e" string is pretty cool too. there is a neat chord after it in e costello's "peace, love and understanding" that is some sort of f/c thing, that is cool too.
Monacosis Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 i always liked those 7sus4 chords that alex lifeson and andy summers used alot. i like using inversions where the third is on top too. it fills everything out nicely in a two guitar band.i dig those shapes too. The sus4 and 7sus4 shapes support quartal harmony, which I am really into at the moment. Very open sounding. Really interesting things starting happening when you invert stacked fourths. Sometimes hard to grab, but cool sounding .mike
Submariner85 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 all my chords are weird......i think it's a personal problem
tomteriffic Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Agumented add 9. Adds a little kick to yer basic augmented chord, especially when resolving from the dominant to the tonic (the V to the I). Easy to grab and impresses the other guitar players in the audience F'rinstance, an Eaug add9 just dying to resolve to an A6 --------x -----------7 --------5 ---------6 ----------7 -------x Edit to add: Other than that, my fave is the Q27 Demented over the square root of -1.
elduave Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Major 7ths (I use them in Carpenters, Elton and Chigacgo tunes) always make it sound like I actually have some talent. Open tunings have the same effect...
SteveE9C6 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I got yer chords! Being a pedal steeler, I just live for big ol' fat 6th chords. The Pedal Steel is a chord junkies haven.
Eric Weston Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 shit, no contest, the E7#9! ( the purple haze chord ) +1 LMAO, It's the one I immediately thought of when I saw the thread title.
mattsmith Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 ----2----4----4----5----0----xA13b5SPY CHORD!!!
tomteriffic Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 ----2----4 ----4 ----5 ----0 ----x A13b5 SPY CHORD!!! Oooh, cool one! Next time Most Esteemed Redhead and I get into an inter-song patter that wanders into "life's little mysteries" territory, that one's getting used for sure!
mattsmith Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 here's another one!----------------------0---------------------------------0-----4---------------------------0---------------------------------4---------------------------------7---------------------------------0-----------------------spy lick!!! Emi add9 /maj7
killerteddybear Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Back in Saskatoon when I was a sprout the favorite weird chord was F demolished.
ArnieZ Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 shit, no contest, the E7#9! ( the purple haze chord ) +2 it never fails to grab my attention and... I even recognize it!ArnieZ
atquinn Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Why play a regular chord when a "weird" one will do? One of the chords that finds it's way into many of my songs is:e-0b-3g-2d-0a-0e-3In fact, thee-0b-3g-2d-0(Dsus2?) sounds great with all sorts of root notes on the fifth and sixth strings.-Austin
bach Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Sus2, as used by Jimi:3 / 5 --- 5 / 8 --- 8 / 101 / 3 --- 3 / 6 --- 6 / 8X / X --- X / X --- X / X3 / 5 --- 5 / 8 --- 8 / 10X / X --- X / X --- X / X1 / 3 --- 3 / 6 --- 6 / 8
