hamerhead Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 So I've gone on and on and on about how great the Fender SuperChamp X2 is and this and that and the other thing. Well, I'd been gigging the head with a vertical 2x12 slant cab (with the lower speaker removed) and it sounded big, bigger than you'd think. The problem was it was still a head and a cab, and - being naturally lazy - meant another trip to the car. That's when I saw a cabinet builder on Ebay who built combo cabs for the X2 with a 15" speaker. Not wanting a 15, I asked if he'd put a 12" hole in a 15-size enclosure, as they were a bit taller. He said 'sure'. Then I asked if he'd close the back and port the front. He said 'sure'. And make it 2" deeper. 'Sure'. Then I asked if he'd cover it in Snakeskin. He said: ...and knocked it out of the park. First gig was about a week ago. While it doesn't have all the low end whump of the 2x12, it's miles ahead of the stock combo, and the Eminence Texas Heat with those 2 ports make it incredibly thick. Sitting on the floor tilted back, it carried to the back of a crowded bar, sounding big and full. I don't know why campers have to be happy, but I'm one of 'em. And I'd always been a fan of Carroll Shelby, so there's that. Brian Holt/Guitar Hardware is the guy to contact. Check out his stuff on Ebay. Great work, reasonable prices, and he really went above and beyond.
Disturber Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Love it!I actually found a cabinett builder too and have ordered a 1x12 cabinett to match with my vintage Super Champ. I am gonna put a Celestion 70 Anniversary in it, to start with.I hope it will sound great with the Super Champ. It will be a min i stack, with the 1x12 under the 1x10 Super Champ. Way cool indeed.
