If Two F**King Idiots in a Garage can do it anyone can. I have had originals, 2-fig's and Hamerhead Bridges and they are all very nice. It can be done and I highly doubt that a CNC touched an original SS Bridge. Ray and I have had this discussion a couple of time and it comes down to Material, Labor and demand. If he is going to make a run we should put our money where our mouth is and put deposits up before the run.

Jay is going to be busy.

I didn't mean that they had to be CNC'd. But, at one point I knew how to run a mill and I wouldn't be able to get those saddles right. Hats off to 2FIGs. But, if the "production run" was big enough, CNC would be a good option.

Did you just quote yourself?

Just calm down already, it was just a little mistake At least I haven't started answering my own posts yet. ;)

The one I reverse engineered is a 2FIG. I have never seen one that Hamerhead built but I would assume his are top notch. Are they all close enough to not worry about or should I pull the one off my TLE and measure that one as well?

Another nit-picky question...on the gold-plated versions do the springs need to be gold-plated as well? I've looked at a few different bridges online and the springs are typically black or silver colored.

Perhaps I should start a dedicated thread for this rather than hijacking Shawn's...

On the Gold ones, the springs are typically black.

The 2FIG was copied from the bridge off of an '81 Special. This, I actually know...

So a bridge from a 81 Special would be more narrow than a bridge from a late 70's Sunburst, right? I think the wider spaced sustainblocks are nicer and feels better to play.

Apparently one available on the bay right now...good luck

The Tobacco Phantom is now paid for and shipping directly to Jay. A box of goodies will follow next week and soon wood will fly. I don't know how many times I've seen a Phantom or a Prototype come up and just sit for sale because no one wants to give anything for them. Great Guitars, I love them and this one too will come out just as amazing but different than the first.

Yes, I quoted myself MITCH!

This has been a long road for this guitar. But the whole thread was an interesting read. Its been a year, the guitar is almost done, we haven't had another run of Sustainblocks yet.

I have this one. 1998. Very nice condition. Some surface wear. Good frets. Was my #1 for over a year. PM me if interested. Bought it from Bloozguy 4 years ago.

I still miss that one. It's absolutely kick ass. Wish I'd never sold it!

O.K. please elaborate, are you manufacturing sustain blocks? If so, please provide all details and price.

I reverse engineered one of mine. If there's enough interest I'll have some made.

I did and Bloozy you know if you made some i'd be first in line. I'll take 3 of them, one gold, one chrome and one black.

I'll add those to the list.

GOLD!!!!

Do you mean gold plated?

I'm thinking I might make up 10 each in chrome, gold and black.

If you make any chrome ones I would be interested

I want one of each for sure maybe 3 chrome ones...so 5 total...1 black 1 gold 3 chrome....if this becomes a reality it would be really cool

Well I located a Sustainblock so i'm moving forward with my next Phantom Redux. I'm looking for a fairly clean one, light players wear and tear is ok, but is must have good frets. No breaks or heavy damage.

So you don't need one of these then...

Did you draw this up in SolidWorks? I reversed engineered up a mid 80's sustain block in Pro/e. I'll send PDF files of if any one wants a copy of the prints.

Yes, I did. I'd be very interested in copies of those prints. I'll PM you my email address. Thanks!

So now we just need one of those new 3D printers that prints in chrome plated brass.

Right?

nah, that's cheatin' lol. mill it out of bar stock like the originals (some of the saddles were cast though - milling and drilling and tapping the threads on those was tedious. I must have gone through a half dozen tiny ball end mills cutting the string ramps on those saddles).

On the Gold ones, the springs are typically black.

Actually, I was loaned three bridges from fine HFC gentlemen, and all three had different dimensions when measured so I had to tweak the dimensions to try to cover most guitars lol. I lost the bar napkin that had my arbitrary specs on it, but everything came out of standard size bar stock (the drill jigs for the baseplates and the saddles are under my workbench downstairs).
