coolfeel Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 I have a couple - do you need me to email it to you or post here? Here is fine, thank you! Dave, here are a few pics. I probably should have mentioned that I only have performance shots and nothing of just the guitar. I hope this helps though.
BTMN Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 I just noticed the FINE Maple top on the body blocks under the body marked CAL Bolton with the pencil outline on the Maple!!!
cmatthes Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Yep - that's a template for what lies below. Nice.
Northfield Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Bolt neck Cali. Pure awesome. Actually, it's a bolt-on Chap! The chap's cool, too, but I was actually looking at this one: Hey,I just put the frets in that neck, how does he get those pics up so fast! I have a couple - do you need me to email it to you or post here? Here is fine, thank you! You can"t see it in this pick, but Newman can actually tell the flames to go the right way to get a perfect bookmatch.
murkat Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 " but Newman can actually tell the flames to go the right way to get a perfect bookmatch. " I'm impressed

Jackass Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I need to know if this person wants a satin or a glossy bolt on neck. Is the customer in the room? Bm
diablo175 Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Not sure, but if there's any likelihood of him wanting to pass on it, I'm calling dibs and you can make that satin, please. Really wishing the custom checked Cali had come with a satin neck.

Well, paint me peculiar, but I kinda prefer it when it doesn't look like a Scotch-brite pad or 4 ought steel wool just chewed it up. My Custom Shop Charvel came from the shop with a satin neck finish and it still looks factory new.

I'm not sure how 0000 would lead to it looking like it was chewed up. Always worked fine on those 70's Fender maple necks with the ultra shiny finish; on the later ones, too (but less necessary). But hey, it was just a thought.

BCR Greg along with one other (Maybe Bm?) had said that a Scotch Brite pad (green, plastic scrubby pad) or 0000 steel wool would produce a satin-like finish. In a tactile sense, yes, but the aesthetics of it left a bit to be desired. It looks scratched up, not like a pro finish would. It's splitting hairs, I suppose, but ya want yer baby to look good... right?
HSB0531 Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 0000 steel wool from the hardware store works well, yes.

RichRS6 Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Why the Fu(k did it take so long for this thread to get started ?Think of all the inspiration for custom orders it would have generated, now it just makes me pissed that it's all going to stop soon................But please don't stop posting those lovely pics (just because I'm a grumpy bastard that never had the nuts to put in a C/O) while still you can guys, I'm sure we all appreciate the inside story.
Steve Haynie Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I need to know if this person wants a satin or a glossy bolt on neck. Is the customer in the room? BmIf you use the wrong finish do you have to strip the neck and spray it again, or do you get to make another neck? If you have to make another neck someone could order another body...

Northfield Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Time to level the standard and Newman is shaping a chunk of maple into a Cali..
David B Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Time to level the standard and Newman is shaping a chunk of maple into a Cali.. I get excited every weekend because of these updates!
Hamerica Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Maybe the new ownership of FMIC will read this thread and see that weekend Hamer custom orders are just what the doctor ordered.

Steel wool has oils in it. Plus take a nine volt battery and stick the leads into it and see what happens. Bm

One extra mil. might make your neck top heavy.Bm
