Boomerang~Junkie Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 An abundance of studies and statistics show there is no “counseling” or “cure” to fix these evil monsters who walk amongst us and prey on our children. While I have absolutely no use for him, I feel sorry for his other band members who unknowingly associated themselves with this freakish douchebag (At least I pray they weren't aware of his atrocities). He has victimized them as well.High speed lead poisoning is much faster, cheaper and is PERMANENT. Because ~ no violent scumbags have ever escaped from a cemetery.Just something to consider . . . . . .
Jem Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 The band will be renamed the Lost Profits. No, the band were so devistated by this that they called it a day last year and pulled the rug over the trap door.

ib2010 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 If he's plea dealing/admitting all that, NO telling what he's really done.

a.bandini Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 That is pretty much the definition of evil, in my book.
Armitage Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I can't imagine how you could have sex with a baby, let alone why.
tbonesullivan Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 I can't imagine how you could have sex with a baby, let alone why. This is also what's going through my head as well. How? and Why? But I guess that's part of the point: something is wired differently in pedophiles, at the brain level most likely. This is why they cannot be cured. There is however a difference between a pedophile and a child molester/rapist etc. A pedophile is someone who has a sexual attraction to children, and strictly speaking, it's pre-pubescent children. However that is not a crime, acting on those impulses is, which makes one a child rapist or child molester, etc. It's someone who cannot control their urges, which is what separates a normal person, from a serial killer, rapist, etc.The question then becomes whether it is really inborn, or learned. Psychologists/Psychiatrists who have worked with victims and abusers have known for years that many abusers have their own history of abuse. The assistant basketball coach at Syracuse who was outed as a child molester was outed by one of his victims, who had become a child abuser himself. Other therapists dealing with victims have watched victims turn into aggressors as they grow older.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Whatever the cause, the cure is to make sure the perp never has a chance to repeat his/her crime.

I mean I'm a dad to a wonderful little girl. But part of me thinks... can this be cured or at least prevented? I mean yeah some people are just BAD. But I suppose there must be people who have horrible urges: sexual desire for children or horses, or constant visions of violence, or hell, there was that 2 Girls 1 Cup thing. I wonder if someday we can control/medicate/surgically snip/SOMETHING those bits of the brain into something better. I dunno how I'd deal with having some sort of gross sick compulsion I had to fight down every day in order to pass as normal. Shit, I'd line up for castration or a lobotomy or something if I was dealing with an attraction to kids. I'll bet every one of us has some compulsion we can't rein in: sex or drink or buying guitars... and I'll bet some of us have secret desires we will never tell a soul and will carry to our graves, thankful we were never found out. Just gross and depressing and... so many awful things.
tbonesullivan Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Well, lately there have been efforts to really focus in on structures in the brain that are different in people with certain disorders. The question is whether it would be as simple as taking a pill, or whether it would require surgery. It also does bring back memories of earlier days when sticking a long needle into the corner of your eye socket, into the brain, and wiggling it around was considered "therapeutic". The old "prefrontal labotomy" that really just nuked people's brains when they had mental deficiencies or illnesses that were not able to be treated at the time.Another thing to think about is the victims, which I think is where the majority of attention (or lack of attention) should be directed. I have several friends who were abused as children, and one of the hardest things they have dealing with is society's perception of them as "damaged goods." Elizabeth Smart has been quite open with how one of the hardest things she had to come to terms with was how much her society now considered her "dirty" and "unpure". Everyone is all about outing the big time abusers, making a huge media frenzy complete with condemnations and such, but is that really in the best interest of the victims and their recovery?
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 But part of me thinks... can this be cured or at least prevented? We can never prevent all bad things from happening. But we can prevent repeat offences if we're willing to remove perps from the population permanently and if we're willing to make public examples of the perps (scare the living daylights out of anyone else who considers molesting a child), and we can work on educating the public that children are victims not co-perps of the crime. The first two steps require we be less civilized than we currently are. The last step is easy but requires admitting how big of a problem it is out there.

Everyone is all about outing the big time abusers, making a huge media frenzy complete with condemnations and such, but is that really in the best interest of the victims and their recovery?I hope we're not getting to far astray on this topic within this guitar forum. My observation, knowing several abuse victims closely, is that a very large part of the psychological damage is done by the other adults when the child tries to come forward. Whoever the trusted adults are, or perhaps a trusted older sibling, the abused child tries to tell what happened but is then told to hush up about it. The child is told she/he caused the abuse, or will be thought of as dirty or damaged, or will cause problems for the family, or perhaps even told they are making it up.There is no one-size-fits-all with how abuse affects the victim. The bottom line, though, is the child is indeed the victim of a criminal every bit as much as the robbery victim is a victim of a criminal. We live in the same area as Elizabeth Smart, with kids in the same age range. When she was rescued it was literally a party in the streets for the kids. Elizabeth was a hero to the kids for simply being alive and coming home. Kids need the message that they are not dirty or undesirable for having been victimized. I think we could greatly reduce the level of trauma in victims if the rest of society would stop sending the message that victims are somehow dirty.Seeing some perps harshly punished would also help victims.
