What would be the best Hamer model to refit with P90's? Studio, Special? I've ruled out a T51 and Newport. I need more diversity in my tone. Thanks.

Raw & Nasty: Special with Duncans

Versitile, articulate, and beautiful clean tones: Artist with Fralin, Lollar, Bareknuckle or similar boutique pickups

That's a "10 guys = 10 different answers" kind of question.

My choice is a Junior, but one of those 3-P90 Artists would probably cover some ground.

Gold Top Studio. Got one myself, but yanked the SDs and put in Wolfetone Mean/Meaner. Sweeter than the ceramic Duncans, but also raw and nasty when you want em to be.

Just snagged a '93 Special with P90's on evilBay. Good price, free shipping, but TV Yellow is not my color and Hameritis in the neck pocket. I'm assuming that the pickups are original and very happy for that. I'll want it refinished in a different color so look for the next post.

Finally, you preferred the Special to the Goldtop ? The Special is as well a very good guitar...

Yes,

I wanted the down and dirty slab with P90s. Simple setup, on or off; my lifestyle seems to be trending in that direction. Just not a big fan of the Goldtop look, in fact I don't like gold jewelery or even gold hardware on my guitars.

Get a Goldtop as a companion to the Special, might as well have both! B) The old Hamer USA 'Archtop P-90 GT' models also came in black, too (I had one once), but you don't see them often.

That would be epic. I'm drooling just thinking about it... :)

I had a black one, its still on the board somewhere. The very first Hamer i ever played was a Late 90's Black Studio with P90's. If you are sitting with it on your knee and look down at the body, it had a Dent in it on edge of the guitar. It was new hanging in a store and If I ever find it I'd buy it. I miss that store and the owner. Good Times. :)
