BTMN Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Oh. My. Goodness I can feel the stampede from here!
Montelovesco Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 The ground is shaking... Is it Godzilla? Is it King Kong? No, it is... THE HFC...PS: Guess I would be among them if I could.
DaveL Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 black, with Lawrence L-500 pickups... very interesting... no longer seeing it btw...
Carl.B Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 It's still listed it just doesn't have a picture or did someone call and check on it.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I just called them. I was the 28th caller on it. They said it never even got stocked totally. He said it was in great shape with FHSC. He said another customer who was in the store at the time bought it on the spot. Lucky dude.Serial number was: #0122Someone got a deal.
vitass Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 unbelievable...first 78 black sunburst B&C scored for 700 bucks, and now this...
Boomerang~Junkie Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 FYI,Unbelievably, the guy I spoke with said their boss didn't originally even want to "take it in" - read didn't want to buy it AT ALL. He commented that several callers told them it was worth twice that. He said they should have listed it for $4000.Bet that GC store won't be doing that again anytime soon with a vintage Hamer.
carfish7 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Reminds me again that the sheer ignorance of the majority of GC employees can be a blessing for an informed buyer. My own story was calling on a listing with no pic that said simply "USA Hamer double-cut". It was certainly THAT, but so very much more...............
Jim Browne Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I guess that those callers that felt compelled to enlighten the GC staff, as to its value, had no desire to score a similar deal from GC, in the future.
Boomerang~Junkie Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Yeah, that ship had obviously sailed. He started chuckling when I told him what I was calling about. I'm sure the fact that it sold so fast right there in the store and by caller 15 on it - they new something was up.
Ting Ho Dung Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 $1999.00 I can see someone netting a few grand on e-bay in the next few days Reminds me again that the sheer ignorance of the majority of GC employees can be a blessing for an informed buyer. My own story was calling on a listing with no pic that said simply "USA Hamer double-cut". It was certainly THAT, but so very much more............... Please. Do tell.

Cat's out of the bag anyway, once you start getting a rapidly increasing double/triple-digit number of callers within an hour or two after listing; especially after most of the callers want to buy it on the spot, put a deposit down, or have it put on hold.

GC will never stop pricing stuff in a silly manner - they have no consistent method, so you'll get $900 Mexi-Strats and $350 USA Hamers until they close the doors. That said, I get first dibs on their used stuff, ok?

There's always a chance and the GC guys do get it wrong every once in a while as long as it doesn't say Gibson or Fender on the headstock. Hope we get to see that standard...what a fantastic story... It takes a guitar to get NYC movin'....

Cary Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 $1999.00I can see someone netting a few grand on e-bay in the next few daysI hope not. I hope the person that snagged it had been looking for one for a long time and is going to keep it and play it.
serial Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 A low number black one bound and crowned? I'd expect the guy to quadruple his money at least.
carfish7 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I have a hunch we might see it pop up here in the near future - if it didn't immediately go to a collector, never to be played again (don't even LOOK at it!).
