topekatj Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I may be getting close..don't have much info on these though.. are they the same body size as an earlier P90 Special? An earlier model with keystone tuners is desirable?Same body size, and neck joins body at 21st fret. Regarding the Keystones: Depends on what you like cosmetically, but I'd guess the Keystones are lighter in weight than the (later) Grovers. The Jrs. are light guitars, so anything to avoid a neck-heavy instrument.....
Hfan Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 You're worse than my wife. That's impossible I'm meeting the guy in a parking lot tonight..wish me luck
veatch Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Get it. That is a great price. May have been said above, but a single pup guitar has the advantage of an unrouted neck joint. If the bridge bothers you, don't let it. If you like intonatable bridges, the pigtail is one of the better ones out there. If you want the solid standard wrap, there are other options that are still compensated that range from affordable to cork-sniffer. (Faber, or my favorite - MojoAxe) And as said above, if you don't like it, and there is nothing structurally wrong with the guitar, you should easily be able to flip it.Good luck!
Studio Custom Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 You're worse than my wife. That's impossible I'm meeting the guy in a parking lot tonight..wish me luck In Jersey City?
Hfan Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Thanks^^ Fwiw, I found a thread from 2005 on the SD forum. A VP at Duncan had one of these built. There are build pictures and one of the guys working on it was one of the owners of Hamer if I got it right..kinda breezed through it. It's long. http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?29598-My-G-A-S-Hamer-Special-Korina-Jr-*NEW-PICS*-amp-Review
Hfan Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 You're worse than my wife. That's impossible I'm meeting the guy in a parking lot tonight..wish me luck In Jersey City? Ha no..but that's where I'm from originally and where he works..
polara Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Going rate on those is about $1200 to $1400. You won't lose money if you part with it, but they're supposed to be amazing. Oh, FWIW that kind of tailpiece is a wraptail. A stoptail is the kind that anchors the strings behind a tune-o-magic style bridge. Hope ya love it!

Studio Custom Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Well? Probably dead. You don't go to JC with $950 cash after dark. I offered to meet the guy at lunch time, he agreed and then changed it to the evening, which I took a pass on.
django49 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 You're worse than my wife. That's impossible I'm meeting the guy in a parking lot tonight..wish me luck Did you update your insurance?
memphis Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I'm really curious to hear about this as well!
hamer_sunburst Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 similar one, but at a different price http://www.ebay.com/itm/Collings-290-Les-Paul-Jr-/301499788602?pt=Guitar&hash=item4632c9ad3a I am pretty sure the Hamer is not the least inferior to this Collings
paulcozby Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Looks like my old Korina that I picked up from DaveL on this very forum, I paid either 850 or 900 shipped, replaced the bridge and put a new pickup cover on it...

I offered to meet the guy at lunch time, he agreed and then changed it to the evening, which I took a pass on. Not quite dead but in heaven with this frigging thing. Sounds like I almost missed it. Worked out well, nice guy and a great guitar in really excellent shape, better than 8 out of 10 for sure. No fret wear, some tiny invisible dings on the body but that's it. I need to tweak the bridge a little. Will get some pictures and do a NGD soon. Thanks for all the help..you guys were spot on.
ghamerinfrance Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Congrats, happy for you....Would be very happy to hear your comment on clean sounds especially for Jazz/Blues style for music with this thing Maybe missing a neck pickup but a great guitar apparently
Ting Ho Dung Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Congrats Pete. But can you do something about that ugly headstock?
veatch Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Glad you were able to get it! Rawk it with pride.
paulcozby Posted January 25, 2015 Posted January 25, 2015 If you ever decide to trade it for something, let me know...
sirDaniel Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Maybe missing a neck pickup but a great guitar apparentlyHA!, like hell. neck pickup is only a nuisance. Totally unneeded. Hamer juniors take no prisoners. Never heard of a bad one; only "kick arse" and "holy balls"

Hamer juniors take no prisoners. Never heard of a bad one; only "kick arse" and "holy balls"Forced myself, at a recent rehearsal, to use ONLY the Korina Jr, even for the soft "arpeggio" stuff. You can get one helluva lot of mileage outta that one pickup. You just have to work those 2 little round thingies rather than leaving the volume and tone knobs stuck on 10. (Mine is upgraded from the stock pickup). I was just about to sell it, but I really did change my mind that afternoon.
