I just wanted to check in and let everyone know that all 18 sets of Shlabotniks have been spoken for. I'm planning another batch of these in the near future and will continue to offer the discount to HFC members with Supporter status so don't feel like you missed out! As always, I'm happy to do custom builds so feel free to get in touch.

Thanks so much to all of you for appreciating what I'm up to over here and a huge, huge thank you to Mike Shishkov for asking me to be a part of this. What an honor!

I've got a bunch of bobbins to wind, magnets to charge, and little wires to solder but I'll be checking in frequently. Thanks again and feel free to give me a shout if you've got any questions - I'm always glad to help.

These pickups are REALLY good. I'll be in for the next order!

It's possible I'll be interested in the next run. I've never played an "Ultimate". What flavor are these: Alnico V or II, Resistance, Hot, in between, or Vintage? Are these more suited for a semi hollow body or solid body? So many questions...

Thanks!

Update!

All sets complete and the first 7 shipped and on their way home. The rest will follow over the next few days so check your messages and/or email for tracking numbers soon. :)

Working with new parts is such a blast and things really couldn't have gone any smoother. I did all the prep work (filing/smoothing rough bits and edges, taping, hook up wire cutting/stripping, etc.) for everything first, as I like to do when I do batches of pickups - being able to reach into a bin for what you need, when you need it, and have it be perfect and ready to use makes things move along so, so much faster. A little forethought with things goes a long way and also helps me to focus on the tasks at hand while I'm in the moment with them. Good times, good times.

There is one problem: I said to a bunch of people that I'd send them pictures of their pickups as I was building them. Believe me, I want to be able to do that but it's just not possible. When I'm building pickups, the process goes on for hours and hours and as I'm snapping pics throughout, they all add up and I'd be a total liar if I said I can point out whos are whos. I failed there, and I'm sorry.

Here's a gallery instead, full of my usual macro-zoomed detail shots, crappy cell phone pictures, and an up-close-and-personal look at pickups in all stages of building:

Rock and roll!

Cool! Arriving here in 2 days!

The more I play these, the more I'm pissed I didn't order a set!

Dhuber,

Alnico II, 42 awg wire, 7.5k or so in the neck, 9.0k at the bridge - low/medium "vintage' output mostly, leaning slightly toward the brown side of things at the bridge. I opted for a carefully timed, partial wax potting as to retain the swirly harmonic overtones and extra dynamicism that an unpotted coil brings to the table, while still dampening the internals and getting some wax into the coils so you can crank it up without having a squeal-fest.

The pickups are wound and designed for the chambered body Ultimates specifically but I can say that the pickups also sound great in solid 'hog bodies as well as semi-hollow bodies, as tested through a Carr Hammerhead and 71 Fender Twin.

The only guitar I CANT see these working in would be a very bright one, such as a northern hard ash body combined with a maple neck and fingerboard. That might be a little too much. That said, tastes are subjective!

I'll have the soldering iron out Thursday night. Chambered late-model Hamer Standard that I think Mike might have had a hand in building.

Thanks, Josh. I really appreciate it.

I think I see mine too! ;)

If only I had of had something to put them in! Can't wait to try them out in 0023!

Mine came in today . #002

Does the "003" on your pickups mean the third set built?

The Man Himself would probably have to decode the markings. Me, I'm itching to bury them in some mahogany where I can't see the backsides anymore.

BOO YA!

It was Christmas in May at this casa! I got a box and a swag envelope.

One from the Shishkov Swag elves and the second from the Gravelin PU elves - on the same friggin' day!

Waiting rather impatiently for my Shishkov swag to arrive.....I am already enjoying the Shlabotnik's in my Ultimate.

The swag will probably go out this weekend - the embroidered items (hats) haven't arrived yet, but we're looking to be on track with the original shipping estimate.

I think my Shlabotnik set arrives on Friday as well...then I get to send it directly to NC to get worked into a very special guitar restoration. ;)
