carfish7 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I'm not 100% convinced either way. In person it looks an awful lot like this 10 lb plus late 70's Strats, but this is lightweight. What say you?
Bennyboy-UK Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 It looks wicked Did you get my pm about the strat landing with me, the neck is great!
burningyen Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Tight pores and non-contrasty grain lines make it look like alder, very white/blond color in the 1st 4 pics makes it look like ash. Dunno, probably alder, I guess.
mrjamiam Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 I'm guessing ash, but only guessing. My general rule is that if it looks like it could be oak, it's ash.
it's me HHB Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Maybe swamp ash? Northern ash like the Daytona is usually heavy but is alder that figured?
Caddie Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 One of you talented dudes out there should make a body out of both ash & alder.Cheers!caddie
Armitage Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Looks like a particularly grainy alder to me...
Stike Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Too looks like alder, back looks like ash. Weird.
randelli Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I say alder. Ashe tends to be more angular and have specks. This looks like a nice buttery alder to me.
Biz Prof Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 The latewood in Ash is typically much more pronounced and open pored that what you have there. Looks a lot like Alder to me.
veatch Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 I'm going with Alder, but i also thought i could tell the difference between Indian and Brazilian rosewood by looking at it. So i could be wrong. 50% chance of being wrong, actually.

burningyen Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Yeah, that was my white prototype before the color coat. I probably should have shot it as a burst, but I had my mind set on a color that emphasized the body shape.
Armitage Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Murkat said alder... it's alder... 'nuff said.
burningyen Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I rationalized it at the time as a way of hiding that little knot on the top edge, but in hindsight a burst would have worked too.
tbonesullivan Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 definitely looks to be alder. the subdued grain and darker color definitely say "alder" in my mind.either way, great looking guitar. Puts my diablo's to shame, with their massive buckle rash.
