What's the Hamer of Pedal Boards...

Have a couple of smaller Gator boards that work on their own or i can chain together. At gigs, i always use both - too big. Need to scale back.

I like the Gator hardshell case, but it looks like this model is no longer made. So - i'm looking for a rugged board. I was thinking about PedalPad, actually, i was ready to order one... but the website is now down (pedalpad.com), and no answer on the phone. Not a good sign.

Requirements:

* Size - bigger than a breadbox, smaller than a hearse. (i'll lay out my thinned out pedals today to get a better idea)

* Hard case - no gig bag. Want to be able to throw it in the trunk and go. Pedals aren't expensive, but the sum of the pedals *is*

* In/Out jacks are a plus, but not mandatory

* Power in with supply underneath is a plus (preferred)

* Space for redundant power is a plus (preferred)

* Trying to stay in the $200 to $300 range

PedalPad had a really cool feature to mount a mic stand on a corner of the board - saves a little real estate, but i don't know how effective it would be.

Anyways - tell me what you gots. :)

Tnx in advance.

Just checked their website and it seems to be working just fine...

I had a Furman SP-8 that I gigged like a monster with my last band that was everything I needed with a lot of wishlist thrown in. I had to replace the stock velcro with industrial strength, spill-resistant stuff, but it was on-board powered, quiet operation/no hisshum and a variety of in/out patch options. Mine had a durable bag but I recall they had shell/case upgrades for them.

I had a PedalPad and if it had been the smaller model I'd have kept it. Really rugged and versatile.

While it is NOT a hard case, there are new items from Mono that seem to get good reviews for protection......I have a pair of Mono cases (Vertigo model) that I have begun using with guitars I am really picky about, after MANY years of refusing to use anything but HS cases.

Interesting. I can get to them from Verizon, but not Comcast. tracert fails at first hop. Looks like PedalPad is back on my go-to list. :)

I had a furman before. Liked it, but *heavy*, and the power supply started injecting noise. :/ That's when i went to the Gator.

Thanks for all the responses. Will likely go with PedalPad now that i see they are alive... :)

Pics/review when you get it, please! I'm also thinking pedal board thoughts.

NYC pedalboards are nice. Pedaltrain boards are nice as well, but not nearly as custom as the NYC pedalboards. SKB used to make a nice big one like the Furman, but they are both now discontinued.

^^^ Yup. Did that for a loooong time.

Then I found the internet. And was swapping pedals in and out faster than Mitch selling Newport 90s. Velcro sprung from God's own hand, and the world is a better place because of it.

I have a big Pedaltrain and a tiny Pedaltrain now, and both are slightly nicer than the plywood of old (OK - a lot nicer), but kinda pricey for a couple pieces of aluminum.

Has anyone looked at the Gator pedalboards? Still, I do miss the Furmann and SKB offerings. the built in I/O mean that you didn't have to keep plugging into your pedals, you just plugged into the board. Really speeds up setup time4, and avoids putting wear and strain on the pedal jack.

I have the old style Gator Gig-Box now - I replaced the guitar stand with a compartment to hold tools, spare batteries, ebow, mic, etc. If I could find the larger style of these used somewhere, is probably just go with it. Likely not as snooty high-end as the pedalpad, NYC, etc, but very usable boards.

Resurrecting an old thread, just for closure, and such...

I ended up going with the NYC board.  I priced out a custom sized board, but it was more expensive than one of their standard sizes that was just a smidge bigger.  I wanted to save stage space, but money is what it is, so i got the standard board.

Biggest board i've had by far, but it still takes up less space than the two smaller Gator Gig Boxes i was using.  The case is well built and rugged.  I'm thinking about getting a smaller version for the smaller gigs, but that means i have to buy more pedals...

Once I finish getting my car fixed and guitars fixed, pedal board is next on the list. Definitely going wtih NYC of some size. I need to layout my pedals to figure out exactly how big of a board I need. Then I just need to figure out power distribution.
