hrtatak Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Well folks, I dropped my cell phone on the face of #0010. The phone fell off of my EVH cab right onto the guitar. Big dent about 2.5 inches behind the tailpiece and 3 smaller ones below the pups. I went oh shit.....then.....oh well. It didn't even upset the new me. I had neck surgery on the 19th and have recovered to the point that I can play guitar again. My Dr wants me to play sitting down and not use a strap so that I'm not putting any additional weight on my neck and shoulder. I wanted to post a video on Facebook to show everyone the recovery progress I had made in just 2 weeks, and while trying to do that the dings happened. I am almost pain free after being in absolute misery for way too many years, so I have a completely different outlook on life now. The old me would have had a complete shit hemorrhage over doing this. The new me knows it didn't change how it plays or sounds, so there is no need to get upset about it. I am NEVER gonna sell or trade it, so the dings don't drop it's value to me. I guess it now has character and truly belongs to me now that I have marked it. Sorry Mike and don't ban me guys. One more thing....if any of you are suffering with a health issue, PLEASE go get it taken care of. I have suffered with neck pain from the stupid stuff I did when I was young and invincible for half of my life and let it pretty much completely ruin my life. I am now getting a reset at the age of 51 and will take advantage of it. I will never let any issue go that long ever again and you shouldn't either.
tbonesullivan Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 OH NOOOOOOO. But at least there is a story behind it. "Soul Marks" or so they call them. Good luck with the neck recovery. I have had on and off ankle issues for over a decade, and have finally decided to stop being a hardass and get it looked at, before I fall over or drop my motorcycle, which would get more than a few dents.
kizanski Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Congratulations! Seriously. Now you don't have to be afraid to dent it. It's almost a relief.
DaveL Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 doesn't look that bad... but good news on your recovery
Steve Haynie Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 hrtatak needs to be banned from the HFC for a month or two to think about what he has done.
Jakeboy Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Oh, that just makes me feel better. 0006 have a few dings already too. That dorsal fin swings and catches on everything! I play it...hard...a lot. It is gonna get dinged especially with that fin. But I love it like no other. You got the first one outta the way....and now with your incredible new outlook on life, it's all good. I must add, I TRY to not ever ding my Hamers or #0006.....but shit happens no matter how hard I try to keep them perfect.
hamerhead Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Quick - send it back for a refin because 'it was like that when I got it'.
tbonesullivan Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 This actually reminds me of an email I got at work from a potential customer. He was looking at some original WW2 German daggers that we have. They are in quite good condition, considering the age, but he wanted to know if the blade could be "polished back to new". See, here's the thing about German daggers from that era. They used a very distinctive polishing process throughout the industry that leaves a great looking surface, and when you look at it close up, you can see very fine striations in the blade from the factory final finish. If a WW2 German dagger doesn't have those marks, you know it's a fake, or you know someone polished it. Polishing it will pretty much ruin the value it has. So yeah, high quality items are always best left in their original condition, dents and all.
Sugartune Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 There's battlescars on all my guitars but I still come out here and play.
Jason01 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Better send it to me so I can have a look at the damage.
Steve Haynie Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Let me volunteer to give a second opinion... for a few months.
geoff_hartwell Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Right on. It's a sigh of relief in a certain way, and we've all got scars and reminders. Way to find the Zen in a moment like that, and I salute you and your guitar. There may be others like it, but this one's yours
