jisham Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 This year's tax refund was VERY good to me -- I was first able to buy the Standard Custom from Elduave. I still had enough left to get something else and ended up with this 5.5 lb. tone monster from George's Music Center in CT from a good bud of mine, Scott (thanks bro). This axe totally rips it up through my Reinhardt 18 watter and THD cab and get a load of the fretboard as it's almost as dark as ebony IMO.
bbobb24 Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 I've wanted one of those for a while now, along with a number of other Hamers....Enjoy that one!
MCChris Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 5.5 lbs !!!!! Wow Great score. Enjoy. In my line of work we call that a "spinner."Great score Jaye. Those guitars look unassuming but are NOT for the meek.

MCChris Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 You can say that again Chris! The dealer told me "you have NO idea how much balls this thing has" and he was right. I've played BruceM's through my Valvetech rig. LACERATING tone.
ceeb Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 I've played BruceM's through my Valvetech rig. LACERATING tone. Great. Just what I needed. Someone to feed the Junior jones. Of course I have yet to plug any guitar into the ValveTech, that didn' kill.
Hackubus Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Great looking axe! That reminds me I need to get my taxes done.
Mike_C Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Welcome to the junior club. the Korian Junior is one of my favorite guitars. Welcome to the K-O-R-I-N-A club too. Damn spellcheck police.
MCChris Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Welcome to the junior club. the Korian Junior is one of my favorite guitars. Yeah they're surprisingly nice considering they're imports.
Mobster Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Welcome to the junior club. the Korian Junior is one of my favorite guitars. Yeah they're surprisingly nice considering they're imports. Yeah, Koria is making some nice stuff nowadays. I had to read that sentence twice to be sure I got it correct.
tombo Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 I also played Bruce M's last summer when I was home. I played it through his Carmen Ghia and that was a RIPPING set-up!!! I think it takes a special kind of player to really do these guitars justice (I'm not one of them). There's all kinds of tones in there, you just have to experiment with the tone & volume knobs. I also think running through a single channel amp adds to the old school vibe/way of playing by just using your volume control on the guitar to coax different tones. I bet that guitar KILLS through that Reinhardt!
Hamerica Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Hell Yeah!!! Another convert! In the beginning, I was kinda skeptical. I couldn't figure out what the fuss was. Single P90? Tone? A "private demonstration" with a Gibson Ranger GA20T amp (those are the crappiest amps ever. Don't buy them, call me and I will remove said amp out of your area.) and I was hooked.I love Juniors and the Korina stuff kills. There have been several here that has tried to spread the good gospel of the junior. They are not for the meek. I think Jol called them "little rock and roll machines" or something to that affect. All I know is I have mine and they are cool as hell. Congrats and enjoy.
BCR Greg Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Jol held one of the 6 cherry BCR Juniors at the Hamer Factory and said that it was a "Stripped down rock and roll machine".He was right.
jisham Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Yeah I had NO idea what a tone monster these korina Juniors really are. And you guys are right: through an "old school" amp like the Reinhardt the thing just growls like no tomorrow. Actually, this guitar sounds better than anything else I own through that particular amp.
fretknot Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Awesome Jaye! I am trying to talk myself out of one. There is one at the local GC that I have gone back and played three times. It is a 97 model, with a second serial number, I am assuming from a limited run that year. It's tagged at $2199, which is too rich for my blood. You're right, these things just tear it up. They look simple but holy crap! Enjoy it! In the mean time, I will keep trying to convince myself I don't need one.
serial Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 There was a limited run of five sets (a single and a two pickup model) in brace cases, each set numbered-the first set being displayed at NAMM in 1999. They got the first two "wrong" and used the stop/tuna. I think that the 3, 4 and 5 sets were wrap tails like the newer ones. The new ones are "NAMM limited edition single pickup reissues" in the jargon of other guitar makers...
Mike_C Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 I think the new ones were a custom order item first before they debuted at the NAMM show. Custom order ones came with the keystone shaller tuning machines ala a Korina Vector. The catalog version has the regular shaller tuning machines.Mine is one of the few that has a one piece body and the only one to have an extra long pickguard.
Bass Guy Dave Posted March 25, 2005 Posted March 25, 2005 Great score, Jaye! Those sound like great guitars. The perfect kind of guitar to keep you honest...just PLAY.I'll bet it sounds best when loud. One of my favorite tones was a P-90 Special into a McIntyre modded Bassman (think early Marshall...) into a 4x12 w/ Vintage 30s. Once you hit 8 on the volume, I understood the Malcolm Young groove thing better than ever.Again, conratulations!Best Wishes
foodermon Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 sweet deal. and stoopid light! 1 piece? Seem's like more 1 piece Korina Juniors are popping up. 1piece or not it's still killer!
seeker Posted March 26, 2005 Posted March 26, 2005 Sweet guitar Jaye. I've been tempted many times by one, but never have had a chance to really crank one up. Given our past, I know how on-the-mark your tone reports are.BTW, how is the Reinhardt? I as tempted last summer to get one for the lower wattage thing. DABECKs amps are killers, but sound best cranked.Oh, and give me a call if you join a metal band and need to sell your Junior! LOL
