Jim85IROC Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 I had my eye on it, but I was driving home when it ended. Seems like a solid husk.
Cboss Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 I got it hence my post for a kahler 2300, and soon to be post about wiring/schematic The seller shipped it right away, I'm excited about this..Prototype 2, 1984 to ? I haven't seen one with crowns before, are they pretty rare?

Tortious Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Cool. Should be an interesting project. I found this part mildly amusing: "Headstock logo does not appear to be from the factory. Possibly a prototype. " 🙃 Possibly not. But you can get a new correct logo for it.

I haven't seen one with crowns before, are they pretty rare? I don’t know enough about kahlers to understand if it would actually work or not, based on dimensions. If it did…. I would find one of those fixed bridge Kahlers like Dave Mustaine had on his Jackson signature King V and drop in there. Then rock the shit out of that thing. Congrats on the score. Please post pics of the finished product when it’s done.
RobB Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 An ‘84 Proto II with an inline headstock! CAR and crowns, too hip!! I’d do black hardware with black pg, or chrome hw with white pg.
Cboss Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Rob what is CAR? Absolutely will post pictures! Thanks for the suggestions, I'm thinking Chrome Hardware and will try it first with no pick guard...going to be contacting Josh for the triple coil set!

Absolutely will post pictures :-) I'll have to look up that fixed bridge, but it came stock with the 2300, I have one on my 85 Scarab. it would screw right into that route Really excited about this reclamation project:)

Cool score... some hijinks with the headstock paint but not the worst I've seen... could use a trip to stike or Greg
hamerhead Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Dammit. That was about 10 miles from me. I would have loved to have it sit right next to all the other projects I haven't done.

I'm really looking forward to fixing it up, don't really understand what happened with the headstock but I will have a lot better idea once I get it
topekatj Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 So, guessing someone on the shop floor grabbed a SS neck and attached it to Proto ll body? ETA: What’s the large crud shadow at the TRC area from? Thankfully no “drill through neck at peghead” Floyd locking nut holes. Refin? (No S/N)

Cboss Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Not a SS neck, from "the book" that model was built from the start with a Floyd Rose, this has the kahler locking nut after a conventional nut and before the tuners Not a SS, that model has equal horns with equal curves into the neck, the Prototype unequal horns and different curves coming into the neck, see the picture below It is a Prototype 2 with what I'm thinking are rare crowns, also obviously the inline headstock.. I know first year of this model was 84, not sure what the last year was, perhaps someone can chime in with that
Eli Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 I have a pickguard for this, and knobs. The very end of the pickguard on the treble side is broken, but I have the end piece. LMK if you're interested. 17 hours ago, Cboss said: I got it hence my post for a kahler 2300, and soon to be post about wiring/schematic The seller shipped it right away, I'm excited about this..Prototype 2, 1984 to ? Cboss Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Done!! Many hfc members came up with original parts for this, thank you so much! The knobs, the tremolo and nut, the pickups, the pickup ring (NOS Hamer!)... it took a while and a bunch of work to get it together but it is fantastic, it is still the only one of these that I have ever seen with crowns, and it plays feels and sounds spectacularly wonderful.. what a beautiful guitar, and I love that it has been rescued from whatever obscure closet it was in and has a voice again Flash picture to show off the candy apple red!
hamerhead Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I don't know why but on that particular guitar the Kahler sure looks like a huge hunk of something. ETA: Don't get me wrong - the finished product looks great!
