crunchee Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Or $1299 for the Epi Firebird I version? It looks like they're being sold for list prices at the big stores like Musicians' Fiend and others. Yeah, I know they'll be had cheaper when used (eventually), but first some schmuck is gonna have to buy one of these guitars brand new at list prices for that to happen. Either that, or they'll have to get blown out of the stores cheap if they don't sell. And here I thought Eastmans were expensive! Epiphone Announces Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebirds - Gibson Gazette
Jimbilly Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 big No. Expect to take a really large loss in a few years when reselling used.
Jimbilly Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 buy a couple of these instead (early '80s Ibanez X series), -and of course, asking prices are way up since I sold my triple pup blueburst just a couple of years ago. At least I kept this one!
Hbom Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Ten years ago peeps here were looking to buy US Hamers for epiphone prices. Now were hoping we can sell them for epiphone prices.

RobB Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 Didn’t Epiphone get upwards of $1700 for the Bonamassa FBV?
DaveL Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 I always used to follow the "product lifecycle chart" that you learn in marketing 101... It basically says early adopters pay thru the nose but once the product gets out there in the marketplace and the price will come down... I've done it for cars, camera gear, phones and it has always worked well. but that said, I like some epi's in the used market (like that Jaret James Nichols Les Paul) used to be had for under $500 used... but that firebird for that money? no... the market for gear seems a really soft and there is alot of good stuff available...
cmatthes Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 6 hours ago, RobB said: Didn’t Epiphone get upwards of $1700 for the Bonamassa FBV? No. I bought mine for $550 shipped from Canada after a guy had it for a month and realized he couldn’t bond with the shape. They were $649 new, and $799 on Joe Bonamassa’s merch site (link still exists), but his came with a “hand-signed certificate of authenticity”. Some sellers may have asked those prices a year or two ago, but they usually sell on Reverb for @$1,200 or so. I was honestly expecting these new Epis to be in the $750-$800 range when a few pics got leaked online last summer, but this is just silly. I strongly suspect that these will end up like the Epiphone Korina Vs and Standards they released last summer for $1,299. After the first batch got snatched up by the PreOrder Fanbois, I’ve seen many dozens sitting for 6-8 months unsold, and dealers dropping the prices to well below $1,000 for those. I suspect we’ll see something similar here. Mine is honestly a great guitar…especially for an Epiphone, but it’s no Gibson.

JGravelin Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 I've had my hands on the same ones as any of the rest of us have, have also built pickups for them too, and for those I think $650 is about right. I look forward to trying these specific new ones! $1700? No. I predict $800 once the dust settles. Looks great though and if certain improvements are made, yeah maybe more.

HSB0531 Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 I'm glad that I am now in a position of mere window shopping. It keeps me out of trouble.

I try to stick to that as well, but occasionally I'll be tempted by something useful in the tree-fitty range (more or less), and I get pulled back in again.

Clapton's got that little bit of extra something bad going on, like a bird just shit on his car..
