BCR Greg Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Austin sent me this little Mirage for a bit of a mod. As you probably know by now, I LOVE modding those turkeys. The factory setup bored me to death, so we've done a few crazy mods and made really cool and USEFUL guitars out of some rather boring Mirages. So here's the patient prepped for surgery.... And here's what will be removed... Yup, three P-90s. Austin is a BAD ASS. The idea is to have a traditional 5 way, and have the toggle act as a blower switch, going to just the bridge pickup regardless of the blade switch position. Our little Mirage routed.... Ready for assembly after all the channels were prepped..... Parts installed.... Wiring (for those of you that copy my wiring, here you go!)... And the finished guitar. I reversed the magnets and switched the wires on the middle pickup so that it's humbucking in the "tweener" positions, and it sounds like a BIG FAT Strat from hell. Another Mirage saved from mediocrity.
DavidE Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Noice! Is the bridge pickup angled a bit? It doesn't look parrallel in the photos.
mattb Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 That's bitchin'.Austin, lemme know when you sell it!
kizanski Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Is the bridge pickup angled a bit? It doesn't look parrallel in the photos. No, the pickup is straight. The inlays are off center.
BTMN Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 OOH OOH OOH!! Triple goodness. Did I miss what brand the pickups are?
atquinn Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Looking good! I love Seymour Duncan P90's, so I have Hot P90's in the neck and middle and a Custom P90 in the bridge, just like an AK3P90 or (I believe) a Monaco III. And if you guys are surprised this guitar doesn't have a Floyd, just wait till you see the next one! Nothing wrong with a little variety. -Austin
mrhappy Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Beautiful job as always!! I'd love to hear this one.
teleman Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 SWEEETTTT!!!! Way to go Austin and of course our resident bench money Greg.
Rockola Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 very nice. That just about caps every p/u mod I could have imagined on the Mirage platform. Now if I could just buy one...Love 'em or hate 'em, the Mirage is a killer chassis to personalize. S.
BubbaVO Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Yup. Some previous mods.... That's the Mirage that Hamer should have made. Wow!
Wordupperman Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Those totally Rock!I'm usually not a fan of bastardizing original guitars (too many humbucker routed '60s strats) but I also never liked the "democracy" era Hamer guitars that were designed by comittee. The Dantzig ones had more class... They needed a guitar guy in there to make it "right" which is what Greg did here.
Travis Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 That looks pretty bad ass. I wonder if anything interesting could be done to my 94 Mirage............
BCR Greg Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Humbucker/single/P-90 at the neck.
