BCR Greg Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Gibson's first real attempt at a 1959 Les Paul Reissue, nice top, Brazilian Board. Recently refinned by GMW, with Rio Grande BBQ and Genuine Texas Pickups and new case. Cool as hell, $1899 or trades.
Scooter Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Greg, I'm interested. More info please..neck carve, one or two piece back, quality of refin, fret condish, weight, etc...Gracias
BCR Greg Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 Call me on Monday, Scooter, and I'll talk yer ear off about it. I just drove to Philly to deliver Nik Perri's (Silvertide) main Les Paul after a fret job and setup. I brought it to show him(Like he needs any more guitars!), and this nice lady took this shot of the two of us being idiots in the parking lot.... Guitars are cool.
tomteriffic Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Other than an original 56/57 LP Custom. the only other proper LP I ever had was one of these. It was George McCorkle's before it was mine. Said so at the 12th fret. They Kick A$$ and I never should have let it go.
RobB Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 That guitar looks vaguely familiar... Greg, if you need the 25yr. backstory on the LP (including the restoration, parts, etc.), email me and I'll send you a detailed description of all mods. Great LP, served me well for a 1/4 century. Somebody buy it, but only if you're cool.
BCR Greg Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 Yup, it's BACK!!!!Took a while, but I traded into it. Kristin says "Sell", but I am thinking of keeping it.
Chollie Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 God it's scary how similar you too look. Both really cool guitars.
martin-uk Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Hey GregI thought that the 70's Jimmy Wallace ordered Les paul's was the first go to reproducing a real standard, then there was the Gibson heritage 80 and 80 elite?Only what i read,so if there's a spanking coming bring it on.lol.martin.
BCR Greg Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 Gibson made a few private runs.....Jimmy Wallace, Guitar Trader, Strings and Things...... So they decided to do it for GIBSON instead of for the dealers.Sounds familiar.
santellavision Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 These are really nice guitars, believe me, I've owned 3! Two flame and an extremely rare Goldtop version. Every one played nice, very resonent and decent weight. I think the guy/gals who made them were really 'into' it at that time. The only issue to 'Vintage Snobs' is, they are not exactly to vintage size specs. But, you'd never know by eye. My last two...
black magic Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Wow, they are nice!! I like the Grovers on the goltop also, Grovers just look right on a LP. Jack.
LordOfTheThighs Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 He could be my little brother. I was thinking he looked more like your grandson.
cswilder Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 That's purdy. I like the color. It's in between cherry and iced tea.
Brooks Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I thought that the 70's Jimmy Wallace ordered Les paul's was the first go to reproducing a real standard wow jimmy wallace, thats a name i haven't heard in a long time. i used to ride my bike up to arnold & morgan music in garland tx where he worked in the late 70's.
hardheartedbill Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 purty cool! ever since I got hip to the burst control placement anything else looks a little weird to my eye, kinda like the day I noticed SG's were not symetrical ! whats the weight?

Hey Brook's,like i said mate "only what i have read",but i have seen some very nice example's over the year's.martin.
Zoner Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Santellavision, that Goldtop is killin' me!! I used to ogle one of those when they were new in the store (LaVonne's music before the roof blew off) and have wanted one ever since. I love the way they got the "deep dish" top carve going on - my '72 Deluxe is nowhere near as deeply carved as those reissues and it really makes a big difference tonally! Z
santellavision Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I wish I still had it too! That one was special to me. It was the first expensive guitar I bought when I started my collection. I got it from Guitar Broker, FL. in '86. I paid about $1250 then, which I thought was a ton, but it was worth it when I received it. I sold it when I got obsessed with older 50's Gibson's.
BCR Greg Posted April 18, 2006 Author Posted April 18, 2006 I sold it when I got obsessed with older 50's Gibson's.Boy, do I know that feeling...
