The Shark Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 So, it looks like forum members in south to central Florida are in for some big wind and rain. I tested the whole house generator a couple weeks ago and the propane was just topped off late last month. I'm in between Daytona Beach and Orlando on Interstate 4. Some guys here are much more in the crosshairs. I'm praying for more wind shear and an overestimate of the strength on the part of the weather "experts". If not, it's going to be "fun". And it's going to cut into my golf time. Seriously, I've been a part of lots of hurricanes. It's a crap shoot. I had four hits of varying degrees of danger in a row back in 2004. Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne came in less than six weeks. Charley was the worst for us. No power for eight days and no cable for twelve! Caused me to put in the generator system. Honed my grill skills too. All you guys and your families be safe. Especially, Gene. I already contacted our old friend Thorn. He could be right in the path too.
Dutchman Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I'm in the North in Jacksonville. Between the St John's river and the Atlantic. There are tidal waters a few hundred feet from my house. Not sure what to do but I was told that this area is 1st to be evacuated. So I'm watching what my seasoned neighbors are doing.
DaveL Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Thankfully, our place is about 5 miles inland and not in a low lying area, but still... the one two years ago caused alot of damage in our neighborhood (Venice, just South of Sarasota). I wish everyone well. edit: Sarasota County telling people to evacuate if in flood zone A or B ((edit C now added in Sarasota County). Know Your Zone (arcgis.com)
specialk Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Already a Cat 4 hurricane. Best of luck to everyone down there!
BTMN Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Hopefully the windshear will push Milty south of Tampa Bay and we’ll get the northern edges of the storm, but this stuff is about to get ugly!😎👍❤️🫣

Tortious Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 If you're near Tampa, getting not near there is advisable at this point. I am become death. \

I have been through cat 3 inland but that close to gulf is potentially deadly. Be safe dude!
mathman Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Fortunately it has weakened since that point but is still a powerful storm. Tampa/St. Petersburg is a big Bay Area with lots of water inland. It could potentially go right up the bay toward Tampa. Would be devastating to that area.
mathman Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Take the strength part back. Is already strengthening as of the 2 PM update. They are predicting some windshear nearer to coast that they hope will weaken it again.
stonge Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 even if Milton weakens to a Cat 3, that's still going to hurt. Stay safe everyone
specialk Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Stay safe peoples! There's a hurricane on the west side and tornadoes on the east side, with rain/flooding everywhere!
mathman Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Hurricane to the left of me, Tornadoes to the right! Here I am... Stuck in the middle with you!
BTMN Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 www.wtvt.com for a local view. The head of the department is pretty good at information not hype.
donner Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Stay safe! We cannot afford to get half of the HFC get blown away, guys!
BTMN Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 The guy on TV just described Milton has becoming disheveled and I can’t help but hear that with an English accent and laugh.🫣
cmatthes Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Even getting downgraded to a Cat2, it’s still going to be a mess down there! Stay safe FL HFC’ers!
donner Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 And hey, just as a kind request : Remnants of earlier US-Hurricane Kirk are still causing problems even over here in the soutwest of Germany. So, please, tackle down bloody Uncle Milton on your side of the pond. Doesn't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows! https://www.swr.de/swraktuell/baden-wuerttemberg/hurrikan-kirk-kommt-nach-bw-100.html
specialk Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Alright! Florida is still there. I hope all the Floridians made it as well.
mathman Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 We made it through safe with no home damage. Fence and trees dow in yard.
Greg G Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 They tell us not to wade through flood waters.
