0 Jakeboy Posted October 18 Posted October 18 I have been dealing with it for nearly 30 years…. Docs all tell me it is incurable cause it was (in my case) caused by ear damage (jet engine exposure). 1 Quote

I've tried every home remedy. Quote
0 mathman Posted October 18 Posted October 18 What???? I can hear you... Speak up! my tinnitus is acting up.... Yes I have it but it isn't too bad. Even taking a blood pressure medication that can increase it. Still sucks. Hope there is finally a cure. If only there was as much interest in this as erectile disfunction studies. 1 Quote
0 LucSulla Posted October 19 Posted October 19 I've had it since I was in my early 20s if not before. Only thing I've found that works is learning to ignore and a white noise machine. 1 Quote

No doubt, the result of years of loud rehearsals & shows. When it first manifested, it drove me a little crazy. Now, I don't even notice unless I focus on it. 1 Quote

What bothers me most is knowing I'm missing some of the finer details of great music. My drummer has it in a slightly lower frequency range than me so it's always fun mixing music with him around. We each hear it a little differently. My way is always right. I've seen/read conflicting results on the tongue-shocking method. I think it has a lot to do with your mindset. 2 Quote
0 velorush Posted October 19 Posted October 19 (edited) Mine got worse by orders of magnitude when I started using Apple Airpods with noise cancelation. I've grown to ignore it fairly well, but the linking of tinnitus and dementia is definitely a concern. Tons of click-bait on YouTube but nothing that seems to be backed up by any real research (especially the guy that promotes the Atkins diet as the cure for everything). You've said that like six times now... 🤣 Okay, maybe not, but you can't expect me to pass up the easy ones... I've worried about tinnitus for years. I suspect I have some mild, but it has to be pretty quiet for me to notice it. I've slept with a radio on since I was a little kid, so I'm sure that's helped minimize how much it affects me in that situation. Started wearing ear plugs at shows years ago to try to fend it off even longer. 4 Quote
0 hamerhead Posted October 20 Posted October 20 I always slept with the fan on to cover my tinnitus up, until my wife decided she didn't like the breeze on her all night (what a jerk). So I got this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E6D6LQY?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_11 It has worked great for the past 12 years or so, has a small footprint (under 6" across), has 10 white noise sounds and 10 convincing fan sounds. We take it on vacation, even. Plus, I don't have to listen to her whine anymore. Win-win. A little pricey but it sounds much bigger than the size suggests. 1 Quote

My son doesn't have tinnitus, but he grew up with a fan blowing on him when he slept. Now, he hates having the air blow on him. I'm getting him one of these for Christmas! 2 Quote
0 Jimbilly Posted October 21 Posted October 21 I've got just a little bit. I blame in-ears and my practice headphones, which I try to keep as quiet as possible, but is sure it fun to try to play along with something a bit loud if it sounds really good. I'm ok with some tinnitus: I don't expect to have perfect hearing on my deathbed, - use these things, and expect some reasonable wear. 1 Quote

0 murkat Posted October 23 Posted October 23 40+ years living with a 747 at idle on tarmac in my head, ears. Some days better, some worse. Not much can be done. I read lips a lot. 3 Quote

0 tommy p Posted Monday at 01:06 PM Posted Monday at 01:06 PM I can't swear to a direct cause and effect link, but after I got hearing aids it seemed like I heard the ringing much less whether I had the hearing aids in or not. 3 Quote
