harry65 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 why not, very very hard choice for me between the first album or fair warning, the first album.......well what can you say, it's why i'm on this site right now, totally changed my life, bought it at caldors after school in the 7th grade, like i said it changed my life forever as i'm sure it did for quite a few, that being said fair warning is so angry, visceral and just plain mean, in the end i gotta give slight edge to vh1 as it just flat out rips from beginning to end........................
harry65 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 Van Halen - period.excellent point, give that man a tuna casserole............................
Stike Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I vote Fair Warning, has Mike Lee bought that one yet?
cmatthes Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I'm also torn, but slight edge to VH1. VHII also a classic.
harry65 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 The first one ... no contesti always thought the best description i ever heard of the first album is "beach boys on 11".............
Submariner85 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 VH1 but I do like Diver Down alot too.
harry65 Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 I'm also torn, but slight edge to VH1. VHII also a classic. vhII kills, production wasn't as great but songs and playing is off the charts, light up the skies still sends me into uncontrollable air guitar silliness ....................
DavidE Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 The original. It changed the world. Not a weak cut.
maxschrek Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 For me it's Fair Warning, no weak cuts on this one either.
alantigold Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Fair Warning, then VH1, VHII, Diver Down, Women and Children First.Alan
cmatthes Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Damn. I HAD to put on the entire VH catalog tonight as I was doing stuff around the house with the kids. VH II is still a STRONG album. I got into VH when that album first came out...it still gives me goosebumps to listen to some of that stuff. To me as a 12 year old listener, they just seemed to be having a lot more fun in the studio than most bands I listened to at the time. My youngest son was sitting next to me earlier tonight when "Outta Love Again" came on and he said, "Dad - that's the best song I know". When "Spanish Fly" came on, he said "Now THAT is good - that guitar playing". He's my little drummer, but the kid's got taste!
Crwth145 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 The original. It changed the world. Not a weak cut. That first "VAN HALEN" album did indeed! The show they put on promoting that first album wasn't too bad, either... I attended the "homecoming" show of that first record tour at the Long Beach Arena in so-cal; the show where they had (for the first time) become the the top-billed head-lining arena-filling main attraction concert event... Van Halen at their best and in their finest shining moment! They shook the earth that night.
BubbaVO Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 First album. Love all the Van Halen. 5150/OU8120 are fun. Don't care for the rest of the Van Hagar - although a particular song may catch my ear.First album was a complete jolt. Once minute you're listening to something like "Love to Love You Baby" or "Sky Rockets in Flight" and the next thing you know...well, you know.
Travis Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Van Halen 3? I kid, I kid. It's too difficult for me to pick a single album I like best. They're all good to me. I like each one for different reasons. That being said, the most recent Van Halen I listened to was Live: Right Here Right Now.
tommy p Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It changes from time to time, but I always come back to Fair Warning. I have a soft spot for Diver Down because it seems to be the one everyone dislikes. I remember when VH1 came out, and on first listen I hated it (I wasn't playing yet), but the first LP I ever bought was VH2!I'll see how they do it live Friday night in Charlottesville.
Hackubus Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 VH, Fair Warning and I like 1984 a lot. House of Pain, Top Jimmy & Drop Dead Legs kick so much ass.
silentman Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I think 1984 has a lot of filler. VH I is king IMO.
Taylor Player Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Damn. I HAD to put on the entire VH catalog tonight as I was doing stuff around the house with the kids. VH II is still a STRONG album. My problem with that album wasn't the songs, it was the production; compared to their other albums, it seems muddy to me with the weakest drum sound of any of their studio stuff.
SteveB Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I have to go with Fair Warning as well, although I've always liked Women and Children First quite a bit. The weakest DLR album was probably Diver Down, too many cover tunes on that one.I think 5150 is the best Van Hagar.
cornjulio Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I have to go with Fair Warning as well, although I've always liked Women and Children First quite a bit. The weakest DLR album was probably Diver Down, too many cover tunes on that one. I think 5150 is the best Van Hagar. The first album I got was: "F.U.C.K." and I loved it!!! When I started buying all the other ones "Van Halen" became my favorite although "II", "Fair Warning" and "Women and Children first" are fantastic too. ...and I still listen to F.U.C.K.
MCChris Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 VH II is still a STRONG album. I got into VH when that album first came out...it still gives me goosebumps to listen to some of that stuff. To me as a 12 year old listener, they just seemed to be having a lot more fun in the studio than most bands I listened to at the time. I'm with Matthes on this one. "Fair Warning" is their BEST album IMO but first impressions are everything, and my intro to VH was the "Outta Love Again" riff on a WABX FM commercial on TV in Detroit. Got the cassette, listened to it with a friend, was instantly hooked. Good times.
