sw686blue Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I love seeing professional work like that. You are very gifted my friend.
bubs_42 Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Vintage Natural, I alway's wanted a Vintage Natural Standard... The Zandards that have been on the board look to yellow, it maybe the light or not. http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/bubs_42/Rick-1.jpg
RoyB Posted April 21, 2008 Author Posted April 21, 2008 This morning I cleaned the binding channel and got the kahler patch flush with the rest of the top. Through all this stuff the serial and logo are still there. Now I just have to find time to veneer the top.
BCR Greg Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I may have a factory unused veneer in my stash, call me today. I know that I have a few for Sunburst/Specials, so I might have one for a Standard.
LordOfTheThighs Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 I'm getting the feeling this re-fin is gonna be bad-ass. Nice looking work so far. Any decision on the finish yet?

cornjulio Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Can't wait to see the next step! By no means would I've imagined what the guitar really looked like when I saw the auction but now I'm just curious what's coming out of that restauration work. Bonne chance!
BTMN Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 One of my favorite shades Hamer does. This is a 2001 Standard Custom. That is my Gloss Natural 2003 Dean Z Time Capsule in the first shot also.

elduave Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Roy, that's great, inspiring work you're doing. Bubs, as for the Zander Standard color, it was spec'd to match the book pic, in which the guitar is patina'd, hence the yellow.
mathman Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Great work!Whoever did that to that guitar should take a zebra's place in a lioness's jaws!
clmazza Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Wow... just WOW! I can't believe what a total misrepresentation the auction turned out to be... Unbelievable restoration work!
BTMN Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks Bub 42. All the guitars on this page are the SHIZ!!!!
bubs_42 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 That is a better picture, it show the true color better in the natural light... I LIKE IT ! Better that this picture---- Roy, that's great, inspiring work you're doing. RoyB Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 Well it's been some time since the last update, so it's new top time. Here is the body 100% ready for the new top. Next I made a poster board template to test fit around the neck. Next was to make an MDF clamping caul. I pre-glued two layers of veneer and jointed them. Then cut it slightly oversized. Last part for today is it all glued up using hide glue.
gregc Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 If they could afford you, you belong in the Hamer factory, my friend. Fine work, indeed!
cmatthes Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Good stuff! Can't wait to see this progressing further.
