Carl.B Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I am looking at downsizing and was hoping to get some recomedation on small bedroom amps. The pros/cons would be of great help too.ThanksCarl
RobB Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Simple/cheap: Tech21 Trademark 10. Nice 'verb, headphone jack, small.DigiFX/cheap: Fender Champ XD. Lotta amp for the bread.
Armitage Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 While I'm always looking for something better to crank on at low volume on the couch... I haven't found anything I like better then the 30 watt Valvetronix. I only got the 30 watter because the 15 watter doesn't do clean tones very well.I'd kill for a 5150 with a 10 watt stereo amp section. A stereo 5150 with a G-Force would be heaven at home.I hope someone can post something better... something you can play at low volumes and watch TV with... I haven't found it. The Line 6 I've played don't do it for me, nor the Peavey Vpyre... and the small Boogies don't have any life to them unless you really turn them up, and 30 watts is really loud.
veatch Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 The Carr Mercury can absolutely do it. Lots o' coin, though. It's on my, "if I win the lottery" list. Of course, I don't *play* the lottery, but that's beside the point...Any low watter would be a contender, or go solid state.
whiskeyzulu Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 i'm a big fan of the 15w blues jr - but don't let "15w" fool you - its plenty loud. it has nice fender clean tone + breaks up nice by itself (separate master & vol/gain controls) and also takes pedals very well - its light, portable and, used, not alot of scratch.
Mindseyes Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Roland cube 30 when I dont feel like playing any of these......
Hamerhack Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I like the Vox Valvetronix VT30, too.Nice cleans, and you can use the power level knob dial it down to low (5?, 2?)watts
dewey finn Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Here you go!http://www.fargenamps.com/mini-plex-mkii
Submariner85 Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I have a Fender Champion 110 and it's great.
Armitage Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Just checking, the new Valvetronix+ should be out soon.

Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Super Champ XD. Play one, you'll buy it.
Brooks Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 big +1 on several of these that i've owned;TM10, superchamp xd, valvetronix.the scxd is prolly my fave, an amazing amp for the money, flexible and great tones. but, the OP asked for bedroom amps, and the scxd is a screamer for 15w. for bedrooms, its hard to get a decent low low volume tone outta most tube amps (IMFO), so i'd go tm10 or valvetronix.edit- i've played thru a carr mercury at phoenix's bbq a few years back, they are AWESOME but very pricey.
Carl.B Posted October 10, 2010 Author Posted October 10, 2010 Thanks guy's for your suggestion! Now off to a few music stores and see who has what. I am going to try and avoid GC if possible. If it is a $5 - $20 difference than GC I will throw my money at the local guy.
dogsrock Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Guitar rig 4 with foot controller ,especially if you have a nice stereo to plug into. You can also use headphone jack.
specialk Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I've been eyeing the Vox AC4TV lately. I'm in the same boat as you, wanting a good tube sound at low volume. Best of luck in your search. Let us know what you decide on.Edit to add link:http://www.voxamps.com/us/modernclassic/ac4tv/
m chops Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 If you really mean bedroom volume, try a Roland Micro Cube.
Mindseyes Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Also @$199 I'm hearing alot of good reviews about the newFender Mustang II over at The Gear Page
Jorge Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 If you really mean bedroom volume, try a Roland Micro Cube.Absolutely. That, or the Fender G-DEC Junior. This last is the one I have. Playing with a backing drum track makes all the difference in the world to me.
Feynman Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 Tons of great choices. My entire electric existence has been spent searching for good tones at kids-sleeping volumes. If you search here for the word 'bedroom,' you should get a few threads with great suggestions. It's hard to go wrong with all the little amps on the market right now, but my personal favorites have been the Fender Super Champ XD (love it), Vox AD30VT, and the Tech 21 TM60 (big but will play nice with volume). I also tend to have some sort of multi-effects board in front of any of them (a string of ToneLabs, etc), though I was pretty happy with the Super Champ XD even without external effects. If I was going to buy one right now, I'd check out a zillion more and probably end up with the Super Champ XD again.

I don't get any complaints through paper thin walls, but keep it on the 1/4 to 1 watt setting.
